Airbus inks another

So any thoughts on why the french are kicking our ars'sssss in this heated competition?

I read some of the polls in the past on Airbus vs. Boeing and boeing came out ahead ( not really relative). So why are the airlines choosing airbus. Granted both inked deals were with Mid-Eastern countries, which must have some bearing on their decions to go with France.

Good thing Boeing has a good military business going.

My guess is that Boeing would rather not fill their order book for the next five years with extremely marginal orders.

Airbus is selling their stuff so cheap right now that there is almost no way they can make money at it, but Boeing is predicting that orders will pick up again in 2005. Perhaps they are content to wait it out, and when orders pick up again, they will be able produce more that they can sell at a higher price.

AirTran should be announcing a large order in the next week or two. If we gave Boeing 100+ order, it would certainly close the gap.

hopefully all those good-ole boys in atlanta won't sell out and but American Made with Pride!

...

I did a report on Boeing during my senior year at CU for an Engineering Management class. Talked to a lady in investor relations that basically insinuated that Boeing is content to let Airbus lose their collective arse to sell more planes and to get the A380 in the air. They sounded rather content, as well, with drawing down their commercial aircraft division, as it is simply too crazy. They still wanted to be a part of it, but were content to venture out a bit. Probably why they've bought McDonnell Douglas and Jeppesen, along with a few others. I know they're part of the Sea Launch project.

Nonetheless, Airbus has government subsidy and can afford to run at a loss. I think Boeing is not going to get caught in a spending war with the governments of Spain and France. I think they'd be just as happy building F-22s and Delta rockets. Great company, in my opinion...

Airbus may have a more impressive order book for the year, but the when you consider the backlog for all aircraft, Airbus is really only slightly ahead:

300 Airbus vs. 280 Boeing

In addition, Boeing will eventually be replacing the 500 or so tankers with 767s. In the long run, and even in the short run, Boeing is doing okay.
