Hi!

I am writing this for a guy I know who doesn' t have a computer.

He has wanted to go to Airborne for quite a while, and they had been his first choice for a final career move.

Now that they've been bought by DHL, however, he is wondering what it's like now.

He is worried about going there, and then having DHL close down the whole operation and send all of the pilots out on the street.

Any information, opinions, etc. will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Cliff,

Airborne Express, the freight company has been bought by DHL, not ABX Air.

ABX Air is "contracted" to DHL for lift, the airline at least for the next year will remain the same, thats what is being said anyway.

I believe some people are still out on furlough.

There are 30 still on furlough, though not all of them will return.

Airborne is at the crossroads of jeopardy and opportunity. We have either hit the lottery or we are screwed. We will not know which for another 2-3 years. And things in my view will not begin to change for Astar and ABX Air until Q1'04 when some of these lawsuits are cleared up.

If either company starts hiring again, I 'd ready to get your resume in to get to the head of the line.

ABX or DHL (Astar) were options prior to the spin offs. Not now, futures very uncertain, even after lawsuits settled. Personally, I would pass go and proceed to UPS or Fedex.
Lots of luck.

You could also suggest that they go out an buy the winning lottery ticket.

A friend of mine flying for Delta once said that all of us pilots are really just like fleas, we need to latch on to the first dog who walks by and hold on until one of us dies.

I don't know the future here at ABX any better than anyone else, but I'll bet those who left here in '00 & '01 for the "greener pastures" of UAL, AMR, DAL... are now thinking ABX wasn't so bad after all.
