Airborne Express Caravelle

I was through CMH today for the first time and saw what appeared to be a Caravelle in Airborne colors. Are they still flying these? Cool looking bird. Don't see many of 'em around anymore. Must suck the gas too!

I believe it's literally a museum piece there.

No more Caravelles, really not sure when they went away.

But we still operate the other museum piece though, the DC-8.

They phased those out years ago. Most of them were ex UAL airplanes my dad use to fly. They were great airplanes in their time though a bit noisy. I still have his UAL manual for it if you have any questions. If you are interested in the airplane Wings Discovery runs a piece on the airplane every once in a while.

No, that turned into a pipe dream a couple of years ago.

I'm just a part-time wrench turner, I have been with the company about 6 years or so.

Maybe when everything settles down, and when all the airplanes get painted purple, I will pursue an interview, but for now, Ill stay where I'm at.

Are you side seat for ABEX, if so congrats on the upgrade, are you going to the 8 or 9?

In March or April we had some guys(6 I believe) called back to the SO seat on the DC-8, and all but one of them are starting class in August to upgrade to the DC-9. We still have some 30 guys on furlough, and the rumor is they might call some more back in September. OTOH, with the DHL merger/buyout rumors going on, that could change to 100 more furloughed in the blink of an eye. I wouldn't look for any new hires for quite some time, while this all sorts itself out...
