A couple of questions:

What's the bailout plan if UAL goes under?

How many aircraft/pilots?

How many do they plan to hire?

Upgrade time: Advertized? Realistic?

Pay scale?

If I already am CURRENT and QUALIFIED (SIC) in the CRJ, do I just go through indoc, then for a PC, or do I have to sit through systems?

What's the typical interview process?

1. Bailout plan? What's that? We like having all our eggs in one basket.
2. Something like 87/about 800 now and growing
3. They won't tell us (I'm not sure they know themselves) - they will probably continue through the summer - maybe
4. Advertized:5 to 8/Realistic: probably
5. Start at 22.32, 32.something second year - i don't remember exactly but its on this board somewhere i'm sure
6. You will go through everything just like everybody else and all the recent ACA dudes who were current and qualified in the RJ
7. Exactly like aviationinterviews.com still

Being a fairly junior guy it seems to me that the answer here is quite obvious - and unpleasant.

How many aircraft/pilots?

At last count 69 CRJs and 17 BAe 146-200/300's - I think we are getting one more new CRJ and thats it for now. Current seniority list shows roughly 815 pilots.

How many do they plan to hire?

Depends on who you ask. They have been hiring quite aggresively for the last few months but it seems to be slowing now - though the rumors we hear have generally one class every other month or so to cover attrition - of which their has been a fair amount lately.

Upgrade time: Advertized? Realistic?

When I was hired (about 7 months ago) they told us somewhere between 2-5 years. For people hired now it will presumably be longer. If you are looking for a quick upgrade go to Skyway - however we have a better contract that just about everyone else out there, even after some concessions. Quality of life here is about as good as can be found at a regional airline.

If I already am CURRENT and QUALIFIED (SIC) in the CRJ, do I just go through indoc, then for a PC, or do I have to sit through systems?

Not sure - I have heard of abbreviated training schedules at other airlines for people current on type but I suspect unless they had an entire class of people that were already qualified that they would send you through the regular class schedule.

What's the typical interview process?

See www.aviationinterviews.net for the most current info - but its basically te same as everywhere else - written test - sim ride - HR interview - chief pilot interview.

I was at another regional before I came here and I can honestly say that I have no regrets on my decision to make a lateral move. If you ask around we are a great company to fly for - most everyone I fly with is happy to be here. Yes having UAL as our only customer now is somewhat distrubing but I seriously doubt that UAL will end up in chapter 7 so as long as they are around they will need us and the rest of the express carriers. Let me know if there are any other questions I can answer for you.

Well, I will soon be joining Air Wisconsin!!!

Just interviewed wednesday (21st), called with the good news today(24th) for the May 10th class. Another one is scheduled for May 24th.
From what I saw while at Dell's (for the sim) 50 were hired in March and 19 for April, with two classes slatted for May at 12-19 each.
No one would say why the hiring, but I would guess that it's in preparation for the 86 + CRJ's that ACA has and that will be leaving the United Express feed by september at 20 +/- a month (but who knows).
I'm excited about the chance to join AWAC and can't wait to start!

Waiting fer a call...

How long was it before you were called after submitting?

What times do you have?

I had my resume walked in 2 weeks ago. The pilot that walked it in said I was a little light on multi time, but still above some recent hires...

Thanks

THE CALL....

After emailing my most recent resume, I was called within a week.
However, I have been emailing and mailing my resume every 3 months since I hit the 500 hour mark. So I'm not sure which resume they called me under.

Interview was exactly as advertised (I posted my remarks) at aviationinterviews.com Quality people both at the interview and at AWAC. I was impressed by the ordeal, quick and painless.

Flight times for the six candidates ranged from 7100+ down to 1250. Times averaged 3390. 15 question test is cake...if you're flying 121 or can read. The sim...easy to tell who is flying with or without an autopilot. But do the prep at Dell's and you'll do just fine.

I was called by Justin that friday...so they don't keep you waiting very long. Class starts May 10th and then another one May 24th (4-6 BAe-146 slots for ATW in that class) otherwise hiring is all for the CL-65.

Good luck to anyone who is looking to join a quality outfit.

attrition? who is leaving...captains on to bigger and better things? or FO's doing the lateral thing?

Because of the downsizing in Denver and soon to be upsizing in IAD, many of our Denver captains are leaving for Frontier or elsewhere.

Hiring is slated to continue as although we are at our 70 aircraft for UAL, UAL have increased our daily a/c utilisation to nearly 11 hours of flying a day and this has made the need for 40 extra crews over and above those already planned 2 months ago.

There are still the ghost 20 aircraft waiting in the side lines for somethig to do.

Beefcake:

I was called two days after emailing in my resume. I don't know anyone there, but they probably liked the fact that I am already current and qualified on the CRJ.

I'm going to go for an interview, but this UAL situation will make me think long and hard before accepting if they make me an offer. However, because of my experience I have some options; if I were looking for my first airline job, I would (with a few exceptions) take the first 121 class date offered to me.
