I have been visiting Air Transport World (atwonline.com) more and more for my aviation industry gouge. I think they offer great information. My question: They have a magazine they offer, and a membership. Is anyone here a member, and give opinions on their services? I am debating on becoming a member of their website/publication. Just curious if it is worth it, or if the Free Stuff is good enough.

Thanks

Have you applied for a free subscription? As an analyst for a 121 carrier, they send me a renewal each year to requalify me for a free subscription. I'm sure you can apply for a free one at www.atwonline.com. I don't know what their qualification criteria is for an industry subscription, I don't know whether it includes pilots or not. IMO it's a quality niche magazine that fulfills its role pretty well. I think I would pay for it if even I didn't get it for free. The "news" is sometimes a little outdated because of the instant availability of it on the Internet, but I think the feature articles, editorials etc are worth it. There aren't really any pilot-oriented articles in it that I can think of off-hand. I'd even go as far as to say that the advertising is worth it, because it could provide a future job contact and there aren't too many other places where you'll hear about a lot of the companies. For example a recent issue had a '2002 MRO Center Directory' or something similar and it could really be a valuable resource for someone seeking employment in that area. Hope this helps. I'd also suggest applying for a free subscription to Professional Pilot magazine if you don't get it already.

driven

It is totally advertiser driven so the magazine is free, just give yourself a good title and away you go.

Good information but the print rag is always way behind in the real world

Although my search of the site is far from thorough, the only path to subscription information appears to be through the online store. It might also be that I am simply not being 10% smarter than the equipment I am working with but should we then take this too mean that the complimentary professional promotion is an online offer or possbily offered through one of the little cards that are included with all magazines each month?

ATW Subscription URL

The link to qualify for a free subscription is:

http://www.submag.com/sub/ao

They list the following company areas on the form, my assumption is you have to be in one of them to qualify:

Corporate Official/Planning/Finance/Legal
Marketing/Sales/Scheduling/Route Planning/Capacity Planning/Distribution
Operations/Flight/Ground/Training/OPS Planning
Maintenance/Engineering/Technical/Design
Information Systems/MIS/Networks/Internet
Purchasing
Other

Hope this helps.
