Air T called me about flying their Convair in Miami on the MGGT and MCUN run. The guy was very nice on the phone. But the extremely low salary and lack of any benefits was not worth it, plus I am happy with the job I have. They do have a bit of a bad rep. from people on this board.

I know some guys in Miami that fly for Mountain, they all seem to like the company. Don't know about salarys, etc.

There are alot of threads titled "Mountain Air Cargo" or "MAC"
They have ALOT of info

That aside, I would say to apply to MAC as an ATR F/O.

My normal line: all companies have good and bad.
Good: You WILL get paid, you will NOT get laid off. Weekends are
usually off.

Bad: Travel, alot of it unless you are assigned a base.

Know this, THERE IS NO FLOW THROUGH TO FEDEX!

Technically, there is, realistically, there is not.

I still say you should apply. Get some experience, and use it to move up.

Pay is pretty low, but you get bennies (Med/dent) and medocre pay
increases each year.

Good luck.

There it is... I sent my application yesterday... let's see now what will happen.

Do you gyus know how the base system base works at MAC? no base?
I don't get that part...

You have floaters and bases.

If you are given/bid a base, you will usually only fly that base.

Floaters go where needed, week by week. Therefore, you will
likely be traveling on the weekend and have only 1 day a week
off.

I still suggest the ATR if given a chance.

Got you now...
Well, I would like to get the ATR, looks like a cool drive...First, let's see if they're gonna call me!

Air T is also a good time builder. There is alot of bad info about them on this page, alot of it is true however alot is not. I was a first officer for Air T for almost a year before I got a reginal job. There was talk about upgrading me in the convair and some times I wish I stuck around long enough to get a few hundrad hours of PIC. Its alot of work, low pay however Convair time on a resume does look good and sometimes even fun to talk to some of the old timers about the convair because there arnt many flying anymore. You will build alot of time real fast. For the most part you can expect about 100 hours a month. Do real good walk arounds and do what you know is right and dont give into the poor moral and its not a horrible place to work

Bases

Can anyone list the crew bases for Air T / MAC? Do they hire to the minimums listed in their requirements?

Thanks.

Even if you assigned a base you'll fly on saturdays at most lines and have only sunday off.
Remember no union menas no nothing and that said your upgrade there doesn't depend on seniority neither skills and only who you know at management. Other thing is if you minority or foreign born or anything not a white american stay out of there they will make your life miserable.

let's see:
BQN, LCK, MEM, CHA, BNA, EWN, ILM, MIA, SAEZ, and a bunch of others
for the caravans.

Hiring patterns vary with the tide. Try your luck.

I know of only one route that has 6 days, the rest are 5 days and a
couple of vans has 4 days.

I won't comment on the "you better be white". It may be possible, but I
haven't seen it. You can be miserable no matter what color you are.

As for the upgrade comment....well...it IS (sometimes) political.

tough to say, I can only guess that it should not be too difficult.

Now, a Van in a warm climate? Good luck.

Just to clarify:

Air T is actually the company that owns Mountain Air Cargo, CSA Air Inc. and Global Ground Support.
www.airt.net

A I R T A H O M A is the Convair operator that sometimes does contract work for FedEx.
www.airtahoma.com

I know people are just using shorthand, but it's a bit confusing.

P.S. Anyone know why this message board keeps automatically abbreviating A I R T A H O M A? The only way I can keep it from changing to AT is by putting the spaces in.
