I have a friend who is looking to move out of flight instructing and into the 135 world. Does anyone have any info on Air Now or Berry aviation? He was curious what their minimums are and what their quality of life is. Any input would be appreciated.

I'm far from educated on either, but I've heard nothing but good things about Berry.

advice

I dont know anything about the other company, but my advice would be to not go to Berry. They are not a good one to work for. Sorry Labbats. You can PM me if you want further input.

I used to work there and it is not bad, but it is not good either. I think they overstaff and understaff in completely random fashion so you might either work hard or not at all, complete crap shoot. Airplane mx is OK, 20 year old (at least) metros with 20000 cycles so they are old and worn out. Things are generally fixed eventually. They key is to be a captain or fly with a captain who won't fly broken airplanes, some of them are real company men and will do anything because these captains can't go anywhere else, ie they are misfits or wild cards with violations.

AirNow

They fly all over, Bandits and Caravans, the pilots that I no fly out of MHT and are former Telfords pilots which AirNow has recently aquired. It is steady Turbine work and a good place to build time.

AirNow is based in Bennington, VT.

heres a tip...

a company you hardly hear about on here....is probably the best bet to go for. Berry was all over the place on this board and was really doing some screwy things with their pilots if i reckon. theyre still showing up every now and again here.....

I worked for air now a few years back. I was in the charter dept and they treated us like gold. Going home or getting a hotel was almost always our choice...**CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** rare in that biz. Good pay, I thought, and the list goes on and on and on...I am a big fan, I still miss the green mtns of VT.

I also did a tour with AirNow a few years ago. Lots of fun and frolic in the charter Bandido until my base was closed and we couldn't agree on what it would take to get me to move to the new base (which closed about a year later).
I agree about the gold treatment. Good folks to work for.

I hear the charter side is way down and the business is concentrating on scheduled runs. Charter is "funner".

charter is fun but the reliable money is from scheduled, and thats their focus now. any nes planes online are put on scheduled when they can get a contract for it. They just brought out a plane from mothballs too so they're getting something new here and there.

Theres still 1 or 2 guys with airnow running charters but they like it on the road. not much call for it like there was 5 years ago. everyone else is stuck on scheduled. its not as fun. and you run into mark&bob (ALB FSDO) rampin' you all the time. wankers.....
