I have seen their ads in the WSJ quite a bit and I have looked at their website.

Anyone know anything about Air Castle - what is it like to work there? What are the conditions like vs. other charter operators? Do you need either a CL601 or GIII type to get interviewed - if they were interviewing?

Any actual Air Castle pilots out there willing to comment? Do they mainly fly transcon or do they fly worldwide? If hired - do you get a choice of aircraft or is it whichever aircraft type has an opening?

Looking forward to opinions, etc.

Thanks

I flew for Cliff and Kathy from ’93 to ’99 and enjoyed every minute of it (aside from living in NJ), that is saying a lot for a 135 operator. This is what I know about them today. They have changed the makeup of their fleet, they now operate two G3’s, and three 601’s. Back then there were Westwinds, that were replaced with Lears and there were 601’s. Everything (pilots, mx) is now based out of Millville, NJ, they moved there about 6 months ago. There is no LGB or TEB base anymore. When I was there we did either 20 on..10 off or 10 on.. 5 off….your choice. I know that they still have scheduled time off but I don’t know what it is. I was flying Lears when I left in ’99, the Captains on the 601’s were making just a few shy of 6 figures I believe. They do a lot of flying, we had atleast an extra crew per fleet type on call at all times just for that reason. I would say that 75% of the flying was known several days to weeks in advance with the other 25% being last minute, all hours of the day callouts. They had decent medical benefits and a 401K. Heavy.......to answer your specific questions. They have worldwide ops specs. When I was there the Challengers did quite a bit of oversees ops. We actually had a Biggin Hill (London) base for a little over a year. You don't need a G or 600 type to get hired. Comparing us to them......it seems that all aspects of the operation were well above average when talking with guys from other charter outfits. If I were to ever lose my current job I wouldn’t hesitate to give Cliff a call. Feel free to PM me if like. Good luck.
