KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) -- About a dozen young Civil Air Patrol cadets who fell ill during a bumpy orientation flight on a military cargo plane were taken to hospitals as a precaution Wednesday.

Several dozen boys and girls ages 12-18 were on the C-130 when it encountered turbulence, said Col. Augustine Comella, head of the Civil Air Patrol.

Thirteen children were taken to hospitals after the plane landed at Quonset Point, Comella said. "They're airsick," he said.

One child apparently broke a finger when it was caught in webbing between the seats while the airplane was landing, said Lt. Col. Mike McNamara of the Rhode Island National Guard.

Nine of the children were hospitalized in good condition, officials said. Three were stable and one had been released.

The weeklong program run by the Civil Air Patrol offers leadership training to children who are interested in the military, Comella said. All states run similar camps to expose children to typical military activities, like flying in cargo planes and going into the woods.

The cadets were from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York and California.

"These things do happen," Comella said. "Kids do get sick."

Heh Heh...When I was a kid, I was in the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet program. No relation to the BSA, it was run by the Navy League.

We got to spend two weeks joined with other Cadets at the Orlando Naval Training Center in real boot camp training as a company. For being 14, this was an adventure.

To get down there and back, we were transported on one of the Navy's twin engine radial prop transports. Nobody got sick that I remember, but during that boot camp, it was determined that my best friend Virgil was a bed wetter.

When I first read that, I thought it said "going in the woods."

When I read the title of this thread I thought some kids were beat boxing and popping in the back. Throw down a piece of cardboard, put in some old school rap and have at it.
