I'm curious if this new ruling is going to affect anyones decision to move on from the regionals. Anyone on here or anyone knowing anyone that may think twice about moving on or do you think those that want to go, are going anyway.

BTW, is it affect or effect?

im 25 right now so with 65 i have 39 1/2 years left of flying... I have no idea what the industry will be like... the ruling made me think about retirement. I want to retire whenever I feel I am comfortable to retire. Like at 55 maybe 58 Tops play golf and travel for a year and then back to work on something else, hopefully by my mid 50's I would have a business that makes flying a side job. But to stay at a regional... the only people that would think of that are the guys in the late 40's with 17 days off

True dat, go and go

it's cleared the house and senate, but still has to pass across the president's desk and get his john hancock.. that is still a little ways off...

in the end it's a tough call how it will play out, on the one hand that's another five years for experienced pilots to stick around passing along their expertise etc, but management cringes as that's five years they stick around at the highest pay scales

The president signed it a couple days ago

I'm staying, and while I'm staying, I'm preparing for a new career in a different industry.

You know.....we are thinking way to short term....

It got changed to 65 a few days ago...

Who knows what it is going to be in 25 years. What would happen if they just trashed it all together...and let you fly till you die?

I left the airlines. It has gotten too unpredictable as of late, say even more so than normal. ALPA pretty much flipped on the issue, and an implementation program wasn't even discussed. How about increasing the age by one year every two years instead of all at once? That way, the effect on stagnation will be mitigated.

Another point is how will ALPA and other unions be able to bargain with this? Will there be payouts? Will the wage scale get suppressed to accomodate guys for another 5 years (the answer is yes). I think management gets another chip for the table. So at the end of the day, was ALPA wise for getting on board with this? No.

What about foreign control and allowing foreign carriers to operate point to point in the states? Isn't that next? Same with cargo. How will that help my career?

I got out because I don't see any long term stability. I was right at the jumping point and all I saw were furloughs, stagnation, bad contracts, mergers, bankruptcies, etc. I would consider getting back in, but only if the industry was reregulated. And I know that won't happen. The consumer would never be able to afford it.
