Hello,
Our pax have a couple days to spare between meetings in London, UK and Perth, Australia. They interested in stopping through South or Eastern Africa to spend a couple nights at a lodge where they can see some decent Game animals. I have never done this before so I am looking for some advise. Our plane is a GV.

What I need is:
1. High end Lodge with decent game
2. Close to Airport of Entry along east coast of Africa
3. Stable Country

I don't know if anything like this is available. Please PM or reply to the forum if you have any suggestions.

I would recommend that you go to the Pprune site and ask there. A lot of very knowledgeable and experienced folks on Africa there that can answer your questions.

Check your PMs.

African Safari

Might take a look at www.safariexperts.com I know the owner as well as a good number of people that have done business with Tim Lapage. All come away very satisfied. Does not own a specific lodge but works with all of them to place guests where and when they want to go.

Tim was a very young B767/L1011 Capt. at Gulf Air before the 1st Gulf war. Decided to get out of that part of the country while the getting was good. Born and raised in Kenya and knows his stuff.

I'm going to be in Kilimanjaro in May so let me know how it works out for you should you be in that part of the counrty as well.

Check out Kasane, Botswana also. I can't recall the name of the lodge, but the safari was excellent within Chobe National Park. Close to Victoria Falls too.

Kili

I was in Kili last year. The airport folks are great to work with. You can stay near the airport, I stayed at the Ngurdoto Mountain Lodge, and actually had a golf course and the boss went on Safari.

It was not a bad drive to see the Ngorongoro Crater, and then spent a night in the Serengeti. I stayed at the Sopa lodge and it was GREAT.

The prices were not bad, and getting a car and driver were fairly simple. Would recommend going with an established service. I tried both and in the end cost was very close, but the known service was complication free.

PM me if you have more questions

Ethiopia and SOCOM have had some hunting expeditions in Somalia lately.

Kenya and South Africa have some good game preserves.

Worm,

Just to throw another name out there for you, Howard Saunders. Email is safaris at howardsaunders dot com. My aunt & uncle have been on 13-15 safari's with another guide from Kerr & Downey, the most prestigious firm from what I'm told, & Howard has taken over now. Never been myself, but the photos & stories they brought back are amazing. They've done the gorillas in Rwanda (before the fighting!) to elephant back safaris in the Okavango Delta.

Good news is tourism is down & they will create anything your boss wants. If they go that way tell them Peter & Greta's friends sent you. Feel free to PM me with any questions.

Good luck

Back in 1997 I did a GIV trip to South Africa and our handler, a young woman recommended "Thorney Bush" as her relatives either owned or ran the operation. Unfortunately we never had the time to check them out as we had to reposition from Johannesburg to Cape Town. A flight attendant friend of mine at AA is from South Africa, and she went home last year and also highly recommended Thorney Bush saying they were the best quality for the money.
