Hi Guys,
Has anyone here had their leather jacket modified? If so, what did you get done to it? I have the AF issue leather jacket, but it looks very plain. There are some great MODs available.

Where did you get yours modified? People that I’ve talked with said it can be done in Korea and Saudi. Anyone know of a company stateside or overseas that does the jacket modifications through the mail? I live stateside in Colorado Springs and have very few TDYs, last one was to Maxwell AFB. I’m willing to ship it overseas, but don’t know of any companies/shops to work with.

Any information is appreciated.
Thanks,

I got mine done at Pop's Leather in Turkey. They have a website you can check out - they may have somewhere you can ship it. I thought they did a great job on mine. Mods included armpit extensions so you can raise your arms without the whole waist lifting; a zip-in liner; a slik blood chit sewn on the inside; pen/pencil holder sewn on the inside along with an extra pocket. I think all of that stuff ran me like 45 bucks or so, but that was in Turkey - stateside or mail-in would probably be a bit pricier.

Their website is www.popsleather.com

Add a fur collar and punch "US Navy" in the inside zipper protector. It'll add value and your popularity will soar!

Sorry, too much of a grape to not engage.

SOL on Pop's Leather

I just went and checked out Pop's website - looks like you may be out of luck unless you find someone who is going TDY to Incirlik AB in Turkey (for Operation Northern Watch). On the left side of the home page is a section for Aviation/Military, and a spot below that for Jacket modifications. Click on that and here's what you get -

Thank you for your interest in Pop's Leather Flight Modification Program. We intend to bring the our quality modifications to the worldwide community through the Internet. Unfortunately, we are still working out details with Turkish customs. As of September 25, 2002 we have been denied permission by every government agency we've petitioned since November 1999.

Until we can reach a satisfactory agreement with customs, if you want to have your coat modified you'll have to send it along with someone going TDY to Incirlik AB or send it to someone stationed there. Do this through the U.S. postal service to the base. Do not send it directly to Pop's Leather either through the Postal Service or with a private shipper like FedEx or DHL. Turkish customs will probably confiscate it and charge you a high fee to release it back to you. We have no way to intercede on your behalf.

Having dealt with Turkish customs I can tell you that doesn't surprise me at all. Oh well.

Leather jackets are out, just like 80's sunglasses. Once everyone starts wearing them they kind of lose there appeal.

Turkey is best. Heck, order a real one from Turkey, very nice. I had mine done in Korea. (second best)
