I'm coming off active duty as a rotary guy and was lucky enough to get picked up by a heavy AFRES unit. I have heard both sides that I do and do not have to go to T-1s prior to going to my RTU training but nothing official. I went straight to helos after T37s so that is the extent of my fixed wing time. Do any of you have any idea of the "official" way that this transition is handled. Thanks in advance.
Cheers

You are considered to be fix wing qualified as a result of your Phase II in T-37s. This is different than the really good old days when guys went to Helo training straight to Rucker for flight training. If those guys wanted to be fixed wing pilots, then they had a special syllabus they went through at Vance. If your unit wants to send you to T-1 training, and you want a Beech400 type rating, then go. But all kidding aside, you should not have to go anywhere near a JSUPT/JPPT/ENJPPT base.Good luck!!

Thanks for the response but I was shown the new (ish) reserve reg that states that I definitely have to go to T1 training barring a waiver signed by a multiple starred general. Hopefully I wont be going back to Enid by the Sea.
Cheers

You know it. Being gainfully employed for another six months is definitely a plus. I was only unemployed for a week so that wasn't too bad at all. I'll drop you a line.

paveguy,

you will have to go to T-1 training. The AETC waiver expired last year (ish) allowing helo guys w/ ANY previous FW time to bypass T-1's. Your lucky your unit picked you up. Once the waiver expired, our unit said NO MORE helo guys 'cause it takes too long for a T-1 class, and costs more $$. So, as previously posted, its just more $$ in your pocket, and more flight time, and more opportunities to excel.
