A good thing to know about Army Aviation, you are a Soldier 1st, Officer 2nd and Aviator 3rd......not a bad thing, however not for all. The Guard used to be a great deal when you got to do things other than nation ( other than ours ) building.

Don't waste any time if you are already 30.

There is going to be a huge demand for Army fixed-wing Aviators in the near future (128 C-27's for delivery to the Army, Army National Guard and Army Reserve. The Army National Guard will take the first and the most airframes). You can get yourself in IERW course, fly in a unit for a deployment, then find your civilian aquired skills (airplane) giving you the edge on getting a fixed-wing slot.

There is even a possibility that you go to IERW with a Reserve unit, then going directly to the C-12 course, because they are in need of C-12 drivers in the Reserve.

Great info guys, thank you. Still thinking about it- waiting for my friend to get back and to come over for dinner so I can find out more. ;)

Make DAMN sure your wife is on board!!!!!!!! Also, think if you can be away from your kids for a year and what stress that will put on your wife and kids. You will be flipping their lives completely over for a while.

I just changed military jobs and the training is taking me away from my wife and kid...and it is very tough. I REALLY miss my daughter...and my wife. The deployments will kill me....but I will do them since that is what I signed up for.

Just make sure you factor in the family...they will be the foundation of your military service.
