I'm new on the board...good to see there is a place for the flight nuts.

I'm active Air Force Security Forces working on applying for WOFT. Just waiting for a couple items to get back to me to get my application in. I've done everything the package requires, but was wondering if anyone out there has any recommendations for "completing" the package that isn't advertised on the sample package. (ie. little tricks you have learned that help guarantee selection) My uncle retired as a CW5 down at Ft. Rucker a couple of years ago and has offered his thoughts...just wanted to see if anyone else has any.

watch out

hey man i was in your shoes 6 months ago. Security Forces at TAFB and tried to go WOFT. Recruiter screwed me...PM me.

Yeah Vic...it's me. I just found out today that AFPC has approved my release.

WOFT Assessions

If the packet is complete and sent in, thats pretty much all you can do. USAREC convenes the boards (somewhat regularly) and your recruiter should find out some news soon thereafter. If you don't get selected on the first board, ie, you were "qualified-non select" - hang in there.... You will automatically be boarded on the next go around and that they simply didn't have the slots to put you into.

If your packet hasn't been sent in, get some recommendation letters from some of your uncles buddies that know you. A W5 giving a letter about a guy already in the service will go a long way.

Keep at it - There are a record number of assessions this year. Stay on your recruiter. I was lucky - I had a recruiter that was a former Ranger that "bought" his guaranteed return to Germany by volunteering for recruiting. He hated it but loved bringing good people into good jobs. As you can tell, a WOFT packet is a pretty lengthy animal and recruiters have been known to blow them off.

pm or email me if you wish

Thanks for your advise. The problem I just found out the Air Force "officially" approved me to be released if the Army accepts me...which leads to the next "wall" called stop-loss. Stop loss starts for us on 2 May...and to my knowledge the next board doesn't start until mid-May. So it looks like I'll get caught in it...

All I'm waiting for now is for Army Aeromedical to approve my Class 1A...then the package is complete. Hopefully they will get that done this week and my package will be in before the end of the month.

Maybe I'll get lucky and the Army will go to a board in April...but they aren't scheduled to.

Take a good look at the stop loss message. I don't know about the Air Force but the Army stop loss does not stop inter-service transfers. On the stop loss message there should be a POC to refer questions to. Call them, if they don't give you the answer you want keep calling people until you get it. Bottom line stop loss is not a total lock down.

The AF version basically says you can still go to flight training, OCS, etc...but it reads as training in the AF. It doesn't specify about transfers to other branches. Air Force Personnel Center specified on my approval that I was subject to Stop Loss, but said I would need to request a waiver. So we'll see what happens.

I'm just ready to get this package in...and (fingers crossed) get selected.

Does anyone know what type of minimums people have been getting accepted with recently? I'm not one to shoot for minimums, but it's good to know your competition.
