No time in type required for Bandit PIC? Hiring street captains but not FOs? Interesting..................
 
Does anyone know what the pay is for a Bandit PIC? Also I thought the Bandit was a single pilot airplane, are the SIC's a PFT position.

Sure sounds a little unusual that these folks are hiring an SIC for the Bandits. The only scenario that I envison that would require an SIC for Pt. 135 would be the absence of a 3-axis autopilot w/APP coupler. I believe that this is a requirment in lieu of a Part 135 operation carrying pax, but unsure if it's the same for cargo ops.
I worked for a large "Bandit" operator in the early 80's and none of ours had an AP, however, we routinely flew them single-pilot when operating under Pt. 91 for ferrying, maintance and re-positioning. The Bandit is a VERY simple airplane, and a general aviation pilot would feel very at home in one in just few hours. I flew one with barely 200 hours in actual conditions and shot two ILS approaches to minumums without a big sweat. Of course, having an experinced Captain minimized the pucker factor on my part.
In another vein, anyone heard any truth to the rumor that FedEx was poised to purchase aircraft in the class of the ATR-42/72 to be operated by their franchised feeder carriers? Could open a few doors for us folks in a few years. I'm hoping to get on woth MAC in the next year or two and fly the Fokker. lord willing and a tailwind:-)

an autopilot is not required for single pilot operation under part 135 cargo operations, as we fly all of our Beech99's single pilot with no autopilot.
 
Not looking for any pilots at AirNow currently but after the holidays there may be a few openings for E110 captains, as our current pilots move on. We no longer use SICs in the bandit except on international flights, which is normally done with a pair of captains. All other runs are done single pilot without autopilot (we have an STC to fly them this way) On the ATR front I heard that FedEx will receive 100+ to phase out the F27s.
 
I worked there a few years ago, I think E110 base was $25K + .02 a mile and $1.25/hr per diem. Flying into or starting on a day off was $140 extra per day. It usually worked out to $500 a week after taxes, but I also flew my @$$ off. I was based in LCK, as E110 CA and did only on demand freight charters. It's a tough life, often flying all night with little or no sleep. But in the end it was a good and rewarding experience.

I also flew the C208 for them the base was $18K + per diem, miles etc. worked out to $350/week after txes.

And as E110 FO it was $14K base + per diem, etc worked out to be $250 a week after taxes.

If I remember correctly the POH required 2 pilots to operate the E110. AirNow owns an STC with provisions to operate it single pilot. Non of the E110s has autopilot. Some also weigh in at 13,000 lbs. requiring a type rating.

Looking back at the ops that company used to conduct, I flew it many times single pilot on UPS "Scheduled" runs out of DDH, ALB, BDL, BUF, ELM, etc. No problem, you have planned for that. I mean you are on a schedule and you get to sleep. But on the "on-demand" side you can be paged anytime 24 hours a day. Imagine just laying down to bed at 11:00 PM and your pager goes off. You jump out of bed and in :45 mins you have to be airbourne, single pilot, and on your way to pick up auto parts in Yippsilanti MI, in icing, IMC, snow etc. and fly them to Laredo, TX. Talk about a long night flying with no sleep. That's why they always had an SIC on the "on Demand" runs. I guess they figured by cutting a little safety out of the loop, they could save a few dollars. Good luck to all.

Well pay hasnt changed much, but theyve been trying to get out of the charter biz the bandit becomes less and less competitve for delivering "urgent" freight. Rattler are you with PlaneSense and why wont they call me??? Thanks
