I'm currently in the pool at ACC, and figured a few of you could answer a couple questions I have.

  • I know we won't find out where we will be based till the end of class, but I figured the new guys will get placed where no one wants to be. So I was wondering where that base(s) might be for a couple weeks?
  • Are there any jumpseat privileges? Who? How easy is it?
  • Commuting? They said a few commuted - I'm sure there's more horror stories than good - just checking my options
  • Any clue of when the next class might be?
The following questions are about the 19/9 schedule:
  • Is it an easy route to get?
  • How do you guys pack for 19 days? (i.e. size of luggage, possibly a laptop)
  • 9 days off place of residence? Rent, own, homeless shelter?
  • Realistic or pipe dream? – 9 days off - jumpseat to Anywhere - get a hotel, hang out for seven days - jumpseat back – 19 on and repeat
I have checked out their website and previous postings on this website, just looking for a little more insight, Thanks for your time, I’m sure I’ll have a few more questions

Watch out ACC guys... This "Nomad" guy has been known to enjoy the soft touch of a man from time to time..... If he says he's going to "reach for the flap handle" watch out!!!!!!

I'll give your questions a shot.
As far as bases when you are done with class, it really is hard to tell what will be available. It's not by any means where nobody wants to be, it's just what is available at that time which no one knows. We have a pretty good jumpseat agreement right now with quite a few carriers that include southwest, alaska, northwest, usair, airtran just to name a few. So far jumpseating has been pretty hassle free for myself. You can commute on both charter and scheduled runs but it depends on where you live as to how easy it would be. Everyone on charter commutes though as far as I know. Most people on scheduled runs live where the route is. No clue for when the next class will be. As for the charter (19 on 9 off), of the 10 people in my new hire class 7 ended up on charter so it seems like it's not too difficult to get. I pack for 7 days worth of clothing and do laundry while on the road. I have a 22" roller and a samsonite flightcase that my laptop fits perfectly into along with headset, manuals, etc. On your 9 days off you just jumpseat home to wherever that might be. There are guys who live in Oregon (me), California, Minnesota, Florida, Georgia and other places as well. There are people who own houses, rent apartments, and live with parents. Your "pipe dream" could definately be realistic. I don't see why it couldn't be. I guess paying for 7 nights in a hotel would be just as much if not cheaper than renting an apartment someplace. I hope I answered all of your questions, let me know if you have anymore.

If memory serves me right - When I was instructing you in the Arrow I had to keep reminding you that the flap lever was between your leg and mine, not between both of my legs!!!!!
