Our management is still playing hardball with UAL, threatening to resort to breaking ties with UAL and going with "Plan B." ACA does not want to sign a deal with UAL which does not include growth, adequate profits, and has a clause which states that UAL can let any regional slowly die on the vine over 24-36 months.

Unfortunately no one knows what "Plan B" is. If we do break with UAL I see disaster at ACA in the short term. There is no future as a feeder airline when Mesa is out there undercutting you. I predict massive furloughs, a strong possibility for Ch 11, and using the ACJet certificate to create our own LCC. Very painful in the short term. No need for 1700 pilots for a very long time.

But hey, some tell me I'm pessimistic!

God D@#$amn very pessimistic!!
Thanks for putting us all on suicide watch!!
I hope you are using reverse psychology!
Theres always one out there that thinks the worst possible thing that can happen, hope your wrong. Just have to go with the flow and hope for the best.

ACA reaches tentative truce with United
Dateline: Tuesday July 22, 2003

Atlantic Coast Airlines said yesterday that it reached a tentative settlement with United Airlines on fee-for-departure rates covered under its existing United Express codesharing agreement that runs through 2003.

However, ACA noted that no agreement has been reached beyond that time and said it is seeking an "alternative to the United business in the event that satisfactory arrangements for future United Express service cannot be agreed."
ACA has been in protracted negotiations with United, which is trying to trim its costs as it struggles to emerge from bankruptcy. While the Major has failed to win an agreement with ACA, it recently signed an MOU with Trans States Airlines to provide United Express service at Washington Dulles, where service heretofore has been furnished exclusively by ACA.

ACA also announced it will not be retiring its Jetstream 41 turboprop fleet by year end as planned. As a result, it now will announce its second-quarter earnings, which will include a revision of prior charges for the aircraft retirements, on July 30 instead of tomorrow as originally scheduled.--Sandra Arnoult ______________________________________

Good luck with that hot sauce...........

"Fee for Departure" will soon be a thing of the past at UAL/UEX. Bain Consulting convinced UAL to seek "cost-plus" arrangements with their regional affiliates. (It costs x dollars per hour to operate your RJ, we will pay you x dollars plus a cent or two profit.)

There is a rumor mill going around that hopefully some ACA guys can dispell. The rumor is that you will be flying RJs for ATA. Is this true? Then us at Chicago Express will get the Saab 2000 to fly and get shafted and not get the RJs. Again this is rumor mill, but maybe some others have heard this at ACA not just at Chicago Express.

I really dont mean shafted, cause that would help ACA pilots to keep their jobs, but we would all like to fly a jet sometime!

Didn't SAAB only make a handful of the 2000s and then shut down the line?

Mayday

Well I fly for ACA and that is a new one to me. I will add it to the stack that has us flying for Continental out of Newark, Frontier out of Denver (god I hope that one is true), or Virgin out of who knows where. And lest we forget that pesky Airbus rumor that keeps circulating. While I cannot dispell that rumor it is certainly news to me. BTW I doubt that we would shut ORD down (at least right away) even if we lose our UAL flying. Hope it works out well for all of us.

Fly chicago there is room at midway and Im tired of people saying theres not, there is jet bridges, and we can mov e our saabs down to indy if they needed the room. Also remember we do own the Boeing hangar as well. Im not to sure about the Saab 2000 line being shut down, it might be. But they have been here at express 3 times in the past 6 months, trying to pitch it to us. Yes dont get me wrong the saab will be a great plane to fly, but realistically the RJs and the range is what we need to help ATA. And yes ATA loves us cause we make them money, but you have to remember that ACA has the jets, the crews, and everything in place if they wanted jet service now. Not 12 months from now. Oh well, probably false rumor on this one with ACA, but you never know.

ATA scope clause requires that whoever flies RJs for ATA be wholly owned by ATA. So ACA doesn't qualify.

Wow as rumors go the CAL one is a biggy. I don't think you'll see it though. XJT has exclusive rights to the CAL hubs until 2007. Plus the port authority will not allow any more turboprops from going out of EWR. Back in the day your 41s and our ATRs were "grandfathered" in. I hope you guys find something though. Oh ya and Thank you MESA. Fukin pricks

Saab made 60 Sabb 2000's. Cross Air (former feeder for Swiss Air) had 57 of them. There are/were 3 in the States. I believe Ford had two of the as company shuttles, and a NASCAR team has/had one.

Death of ACA (atleast w/UAL)

Dear fellow Mesa Employees,

It gives me great pleasure to tell you we have been chosen to significantly expand our code share partnership with United Airlines with the addition of up to 60 regional jets. As many of you know, prior to losing our United code share in 1997, Mesa was United’s largest regional partner and we are delighted that we have been able to regain United's confidence in Mesa. This expansion was possible as a result of our ability to offer United the highest levels of reliability and service, in conjunction with providing an efficient, low cost operation.

In addition to the 10 Dash-8 aircraft already under contract, under the expanded agreement, Mesa will operate 35 regional jets on select portions of United's United Express service. The 35 regional jets include 20 larger 70-seat and 15 50-seat aircraft. United also has the right to add, at its option, an additional 25 regional jets. The addition of these 25 regional jets will be dependant upon our ability to operate at the highest levels of reliability while maintaining our existing low cost structure. The expanded agreement runs until December 2013.

We’d like to thank all of our employees who have worked hard to make this possible. We envision that the expansion will generate approximately 1,500 jobs and create many opportunities for advancement within the Company. For example, the initial 35 jets alone will create almost 200 regional jet captain positions. Make no mistake about it, this was an incredibly competitive process in which virtually every other US regional jet operator was participating. United thoroughly analyzed data for over a year and to date we are the only carrier chosen to be a new United Express operator, it is a tremendous credit to all of you. In addition, we would like to thank all the employee leaders who had the vision to work with us in a proactive and constructive manner. And while there are still challenges, the biggest being our ability to find financing for additional regional jets, we believe this agreement greatly strengthens the foundation of our business and provides greater job security for all of us. Although we aren't “out of the woods yet,” working together with you, we believe that we have done everything we can to ensure a successful future.

Thank you all for a job well done.

Congratulations,

Jonathan Ornstein

MESA SHOULD BE TAKEN OUT TO THE DESSERT AND SHOT!!!!!!!
