Does anyone know when abx plans on hiring again? Thanks in advance. Are they thinking of opening a March AFB domicile?

Why, do you want to be tortured by DHL? Better think long and hard before you invest yourself in any DHL carrier. Considering they made a big invest in polar I have quite a bit a doubt that the abx or astar of today will be the same tomorrow. I would be looking at ups and fedex. If you do want to be tortured, polar has a 20 yr agreement, nobody else has anything close. Abx dudes will try to wow you with 76's but hete seems to be finding alot of work else where. Wonder what that means?

Won't try to wow you with anything, the future at ANY carrier is a big unknown, but seems more so when tied to DHL. A friend once told me that airlines are like dogs and we're like fleas, we jump on one and hang on hoping we die before the dog does. I wouldn't look for any hiring here for the forseeable future and beyond.

That is the best analogy I have ever heard.

Airlines have names so that we can tell them apart.

What the @#%*?

This is for both the Astar and ABX guys...

Can anyone shed some light on what they think DHL is doing? ( I would post this on the DHL buys 49% of Polar thread, but the Atlas and polar guys seem to be in dogfight over there and this may get lost in the mess)

DHL buys Airborne Express and sends the airline, already a separate company on its own. DHL gets sued by UPS and FedEx and they sell off DHL air which spins into Astar. So they seem to get away from owning anything with airlines in the U.S., but then buy into a Polar deal that looks like the old U.S. DHL Air.

Could this be the start of DHL buying into their ACMI carriers? Is Polar and Atlas the new Astar and ABX? If so, who is next?

DHL operates with such knee-jerk reactions they make no business sense at all. Could all the selling off of Astar been a move to eliminate Astar or I should say position them to be removed? If so, is ABX next?

Since DHL will use the Polar 747's with the option to use additional aircraft on an ACMI basis do they think the working relationship at Atlas/Polar be good for the DHL customers? And do they plan to use the other aircraft on routes flown by Astar and ABX today?

I know none know the answers but DHL top brass, but educated responses may help shed some light on the future of Astar and ABX. Like JFK once said, the time to fix the roof is when it's sunny outside. I don't want to wait and look for a job while it's raining.

thx in advance

I don't know what they are thinking. I will hazard a few guesses.

First, this may be trial balloon to see if they can get the partial ownership thing to fly (pun intended) without jepordizing anything they currently have in place in the US.

Second, Polar operates 747's on long range international runs. They don't have the crews or aircraft to pick up any of the domestic traffic at this point. While this could change, for the forseeable future I don't expect any impact on ABX/Astar.

Third, if this works out, who knows. They might have AWWH pick up either or both ABX/Astar.

Some points of interest. A captain at Polar is cheap compared to a captain at either ABX or Astar. Astar just bought 20 of the 72's they have on lease. They claim this is to make them more competative by lowering costs and it may do that, but I wonder is this is to give the company some tangible assets of value.

Move over Rover !!! Let Polar come over. Like it or not. This will have the same effect on Astar that everything else has ever had........Not a F%$#-ing thing !!! Astar will be the same pathetic collection of junk that it has always been.....all hopes of a return to international flying gone...bye bye.

Astar Management - "Astar will not buy airplanes until a three letter entity tells them to do so"....
Did you here that FedEX and UPS Lawyers ??.....
UNTIL DHL TELLS THEM TOO !!

Hmm. buys and girls...let's look up the word of the day....how about Perjury
  1. Law. The deliberate, willful giving of false, misleading, or incomplete testimony under oath.
  2. The breach of an oath or promise.
