They missed the Pace call; we'll see about this one.

ABX Air News
Speculation: ABX May Buy US Carriers (Cargo Facts Update, September 28, 2006)

Speculation, originating in Europe, suggests that ABX Air may serve as an intermediary in DHL’s desires to control more lift within, and to and from, the US market. DHL’s lift in the US domestic market is currently provided on an ACMI basis by ABX Air and ASTAR, but Cargo Facts believes it is inevitable that DHL will need either a major space buy or a dedicated widebody operator (via purchase) to supplement this domestic lift with lift on international segments to and from the US. The purchase, through ABX, of US carriers such as Polar Air Cargo, World Airways, or perhaps a smaller US ACMI operator (with Southern Air, Focus Air, and Tradewinds Airlines all mentioned as candidates) is one possibility. Given the current foreign-ownership laws, Washington DC observers question how DHL could directly control additional US-carrier lift, so the form and substance of such an arrangement are large challenges.

I wonder if this is a rumour off the backside of stories that Polar is for sale and DHL is interested. The story at Atlas is, it's a package deal. They would buy Polar and the routes, then ACMI the planes and crews from Atlas Air. Alpa National has been aware of talks going on, no results yet.

From the 7 August press release: (ABX Air, Inc. (NASDAQ:ABXA) today announced that Frederick R. Reed, an attorney and strategic consultant, has been elected to its Board of Directors. Joe Hete, President and Chief Executive Officer of ABX Air, said "Fritz Reed has a broad background in corporate legal and financial management and consulting, with particular experience in strategic and business development, including mergers and acquisitions. I am looking forward to his contributions as we expand and diversify our base of business at ABX Air.") Mr.Reed was brought on to the board for significant aquisition purposes. I believe Cargo Facts could very well be right. Time will tell!

If Atlas still has the a/c and crews, what are you buying except the route authorities? Why pay anything at all, one could just pay one of them to do the work. The problem is this would not give DHL the 'control' if that is what they are truly after.

Was that Air Cargo facts? They were 100% spot on with regards to the Pace deal so I'm definitely holding my breath for this one. If this indeed were true (any of these operators) would they operate them seperate and apart from ABX or integrate them into ABX ops? If they were integrated, how would seniority play out? I assume on the bottom. From what I understand, ABX Pilot negotiations pertaining to international operations seem to be at at loggerheads. Maybe I'm wrong but if ABX really wants to go international, they would be more willing to get the ball rolling.

Sounds like the formula I have talked about on other threads here on the Atlas - Polar hate threads. Maybe those previous rumors may not be so untrue as everyone thought. Sad thing is, I have heard more about some rather negative outcomes for the pilot group such as Polar if it happens since they are in merger talks with Atlas. I'll save that for later if anything comes of this with Polar.

I'll take my chances with anyone, anything other than AAWH. Not being nasty here - just sayin .....

I think ABX's management would intergrate the operations. I believe the pilot's contract at ABX would make that necessay. The two operations would be fenced while the intergration of the operations, to include the seniority lists took place. My guess is the pilots at the purchased carrier would be frozen/grandfathered into their seats for a period of time. I don't know how an integration of seniority lists would be worked out, but I doubt they would simply be stapled to the bottom of the list ala AA/TWA. Once the fencing period and intergration of lists was complete then seniority would prevail with respect to upgrades, furloughs, bumping rights etc.
