Big jump in earnings reported today along with a disclosure that 26 aircraft will be parked in 2005 (16 DC-9s and 10 DC-8s). Four 767s will be added. In January, 3 Dc-9s and 4 DC-8s to be parked.

Crew meeting tonight. Rumors range from 120-180 furloughed.

However many it is, truly sorry for that outcome. Saw a post about it on our message board and it was the first I'd heard of it. Hadn't even heard any rumors.

Rumors, rumors...

No furloughs, in fact they are only parking 4 airplanes through October of next year. Retirments and charters will allow no furloughs even with 26 planes parked.

Also important to remember...

this was an SEC statement which means worst case scenario. It also says that this is all tentative and may change as requirements change.

Looking back on the last year or so, when we have been told a route was going away, it never did. Freight is through the roof.

ABX is going to the Nasdaq soon which should allow us to raise more money...hopefully to buy more planes.

I have to ask

WHY did ABX sell out to DHL. ABX was always an indusyry leader and was often referred to as the "Sleeping Giant" Seems like they had ther own peice of the world and then BAM! ABX would have been a lot better off on it's own, no?

Wow abxbooger,
You must really be in the know. Why would they say that 7 planes are parking in jan 05?
Sounds like Astar or somebody else will be getting some new routes.
It doesn't seem possible to drop that many planes when the volume is so high.

Booger,

Were you at the same meeting I was at last night? To say there will be no furloughs is reckless. Mgt tried to put as positive spin as possible on it so service levels won't fall in the dumper. They never said there would not be any furloughs. They said the current net of 18 a/c grounded would impact approximately 120 crewmembers and implied that retirements, RIF, open time, and DHL's plan not coming off perfectly may mitigate that number.

Careful, some people are hanging on every word written on the board. You are mixing facts with your opinion and hopes.

If this is true, any even distant possibility that UPS could scoop up the 8's really cheaply, convert em with the CFM engines and GROW the DC8 fleet?
Im way out on a thin limb here......its prolly over the budget for a classic.....
any thoughts?

Not too likely. The company that did all the original conversions to the "70" series in long gone (Camoco, I think). It would be way to cost prohibitive to try to start that up again. More info in the -8 at www.dc-8jet.com

Good luck all, I am done with this board. Everybody find your own source.
