Any ABX guys heard any details about the DC9 JFK-Halifax charter? Any other scuttlebutt about the idled Nines? As far as I can tell, we've kept those airplanes so far, ie: we haven't taken the market value for them yet. Originally there was to be a decision in 30 days, last month word was they were still looking for work for the a/c. Though, come to think of it, we don't have enough crews to fly them anyway...

According to Vollmer in Yesterday's bottom's up meeting the DC-9's that are in CVG right now will be going to Grissom AFB during the next few weeks to be dismantled and parted out. As far as the Halifax charter from JFK, I have heard nothing. There is a weekly roundtrip flight (Saturday afternoon) on our November bid packages from ILN-YHZ-ILN. Nothing listed from JFK though. Vollmer also said yesterday that there was going to be a press release yesterday after 5:00 pm. I never saw one though and he refused to discuss the contents till it was released. Cheers.

I heard that there was a ILN-YHZ-JFK-YHZ-ILN trip on Tuesdays that didn't make it into the bid package for some reason. The scheduling committee saw it on the preliminary bid package and it was mentioned in the meeting minutes.

Did he have a smile on his face when he said it?

ASTAR announced it purchased 20 Boeing 727-200A freighters

Maybe this was the press release!

ASTAR announced it purchased 20 Boeing 727-200A freighters:

ASTAR Air Cargo today announced it has completed its purchase of 20 Boeing B-727 advanced cargoliners. Fourteen aircraft were purchased from BATA, LLC, an affiliate of Boeing, and six were purchased from Pegasus Aviation. All of the freighters are part of ASTAR’s current fleet and no incremental aircraft were acquired.

“As the leases for these aircraft began to expire, ASTAR made the strategic decision to purchase these airplanes to solidify our position as a provider of airlift services to our primary customer, DHL Express,” said Chairman, President, and CEO John Dasburg. “The acquisition of these aircraft allows ASTAR to offer a lower price for airlift services to DHL and to enhance our competitiveness,” Dasburg added.

Yes, Bitter, that is one press release... And here's another! (I believe Mr. Cameron will be replacing Mr. Fred Beljaars.)

World's Leading Delivery and Logistics Provider Appoints John Cameron to
Oversee Ground Products & Services for DHL Express

DHL, the world's leading express delivery and logistics company, today announced the appointment of John Cameron to Executive Vice President of Ground for DHL Express. With nearly 20 years of experience in the U.S. shipping and logistics industry, Mr. Cameron will play a key role in continuing to enhance DHL ground services and operations, strengthening DHL's presence in target markets, and developing new and innovative products for the ground sector.

"We are delighted that John Cameron has joined the DHL Express team to oversee our domestic ground network at such a dynamic and exciting time in the company's development," said John Mullen, Joint Chief Executive for DHL Express, Asia Pacific, and Emerging Markets. "With his extensive operational experience, industry knowledge and sales and marketing expertise, John is a valuable addition to our U.S. management team."

Cameron started his transportation career in November 1985 with FedEx Ground, formally Roadway Package System, joining the company as it began to build its ground network and operations. There he held positions of progressing responsibilities in operations, sales, business development, and marketing, and has significant experience managing operations within a ground hub environment. Most recently, Cameron served as Divisional Vice President, responsible for all operational functions within the Eastern Division of FedEx Ground Package System, Inc, where he oversaw operations and was responsible for a broad operational workforce and several hundred management employees.

In addition to his extensive operational experience, Cameron has successfully managed sales growth and development, and has led several strategic business development initiatives.

"I look forward to playing a major role in the continued development of the DHL ground network and operations across the U.S. Our objective is not to mimic what our competitors are doing, but to create a superior customer experience," said Cameron. "That's why I plan to do a lot of listening - particularly to our customers - as well as conducting field visits, visiting facilities and talking to our employees, to ensure that DHL ground operations, services and products continue to be tailored to meeting both the current and future needs of American businesses and consumers."

In his new position at DHL, Mr. Cameron will report directly to John Mullen, Joint CEO of DHL Express, and will serve as a member of the DHL U.S. Management Board. Mr. Cameron, who will be based at the DHL U.S. corporate headquarters in Plantation, Florida, earned his bachelor's degree in Management and Labor Relations from Cleveland State University.

DHL Sees More Changes
DHL is extending its restructuring in the United States and around the world in a new round of management changes following last month's leadership overhaul in its express business.
According to internal DHL reports, John Pearson, a key figure in the Americas business, is being shifted to DHL's headquarters in Europe as senior vice president for commercial in the new Global Express business unit and will be on the division's management board.
Hans Hickler, the new CEO of DHL Express in the United States, will divide Pearson's sales and marketing responsibilities into two offices, with Charles Brewer becoming executive vice president of sales. Brewer had been executive vice president of air products.
The company did not immediately fill the new position of executive vice president of marketing.
At the same time, Fred Beljaars, an architect of DHL's expanded ground strategy in the United States, was named chief executive officer for the Benelux countries. John Cameron was named to replace Beljaars as executive vice president for operations in the United States.
