If you are interested in flying for the new ABX/DHL combination, how does it work? Do you apply to one or both? If you do get hired, would you likely go to the 727 FE panel (DHL) or to the DC9 FO or DC8 FE positions with ABX? Anyone know whether they are hiring now or in the near future? I know that the hubs are being consolidated at Wilmington. Don't know much else and would appreciate any input - thanks.

ABX Air is just a contractor for dhl.

dhl has several contractors flying the goods.

The outlook is for aircraft reductions in the system.

ABX Air

Outlook
As a result of their merger, DHL and Airborne are in the process of integrating their combined product offerings, sales, marketing, administrative and operating resources. After August 15, 2004, Airborne may terminate specific ACMI aircraft, add to, delete or modify the air routes ABX operates under the ACMI agreement and increase or reduce the scope of services that ABX provides under the Hub Services agreement. DHL has informed ABX that, in an effort to eliminate duplicative costs, it is developing plans to better integrate its U.S. operations. ABX anticipates that plans will be finalized later this year for implementation during late 2005 and early 2006, that will call for a reduction in the number of aircraft it provides to Airborne under the ACMI agreement. At this time, it is uncertain how many ABX aircraft will eventually be removed from service and the timing of those reductions. In June 2004, DHL announced that they plan to consolidate their main air hub in Wilmington, Ohio, where ABX operates the sort facility. The financial impact of any changes on ABX Air will depend on integration plans ultimately implemented by DHL and are not determinable at this time.

ABX Air and ASTAR are two completely separate airlines. The only thing they have in common is that they each have DHL as their primary customer.

ABX Air is not currently accepting resumes as there are still 30 pilots on furlough. There have been a number of B767 classes, and now one DC8 ILN bid, but so far all vacancies have been filled internally.

The reserve rotations are getting pretty tight in many seat positions, especially in the DC9 now that DHL has given us the PDX-BFI-SFO-LAX-DEN-SLC-BOI route that was previously flown by Evergreen. The first B767F goes online (FLL-ILN-FLL) next week with two more arriving this year and another two, I believe, in 2005.

Here's the ABX Air page which contains news about pilot recruitment. http://www.abxair.com/flightweb/unsecured_pages/pilot_hiring.htm
