Can anyone tell me if ABX Air is hiring or if there are any plans for hiring in the near future? What is the best way to apply? What kind of schedules can a junior pilot expect at ABX? Thansk for any info!

We have recalled most, but not all, of our furloughed pilots. Those recalled are currently in training. No announcements have been made about further recalls.

Junior crewmembers will be on reserve. Reserve lines have 14 days off per month so you work 16 days in a 30 day month or 17 days in a 31 day month. Blocks of days off must be a minimum of three days and there must be a block of five and a block of six consecutive days off on the line. Some reserve lines have all 14 days off grouped together in a single block while others break it up.

Lineholders get 15 days off per month. No block of trips can exceed 8 days of work. In a 31 days month some lines may have two blocks of eight days. In a 30 day month their can only be one block of eight. The same 3/5/6 minimum blocks of days off apply.

When newhires eventually arrive, will most be placed on the DC8 panel or will some go to the Diesel 9? Also, how many 767s do you have and how long before you could likely bid one as an FO?

Lastly, are your DC8s EFIS equipped or analog?

What's the problem with their EFIS? They have the Bendix EFIS 10 system installed. I've been told that it's a workout in the sim hand flying it doing an engine out CAT II approach.

It depends on the size of the classes. The existing DC8 S/Os would get the DC9 vacancies first. We don't have many DC8 S/Os, though, almost all of the Engineers on the DC8 are PFEs with only five or six (?) SOs. There used to be more SOs but that was before we started retiring DC8s. If any DC9 vacancies remain open then they would be filled by recalls or new hires.

I think we have 31 767s with four more coming. That's not off by more than one or two.

It currently takes over four yours of seniority to hold anything other than furlough so obviously that will change if they are bringing in new hires. The last 767 bid went relatively junior but there are lots of F/Os who might decide to bid it at any time.

They are all EFIS but don't get too excited. The EFIS is pretty basic and doesn't add very much functionality. All of the DC8s also have GPS.

Twelve out of 73 DC9s have the same EFIS system with ten of those having LORAN and the remaining two having GPS. The plan is to put GPS into all of the EFIS DC9s but that's currently on hold as they were removing the ADF to make room for the GPS but that's caused problems with airports where an NDB is required for the approach. Last I heard they were looking at ways to relocate the ADF head.

Are they keeping the dual ADFs in the two overwater DC-9s, 957 and 975?

The overwater DC9s are not EFIS. They haven't told us about any plans to add GPS to any of the non-EFIS DC9s.

Scary that you might actually have to do some classic NAVIGATING and map reading... Daunting in this world of glass.....
