I've got a Third class right now, wondering if I can get a first class.

I think the only problem I might have is eye sight. I have wear glasses with a 3.5 power. I don't know what that is in terms of 20/20 or 40/20 or that system...

I was wondering how stringent a First Class medical is...

thank you

Archer

You'll find the actual standards of each class in the CFRs. As long as your vision is correctable to 20/20, it doesn't matter about the refractive error(-3.5 or +5.0 or whatever). Sometimes, the 1st class exam will find things the other two wouldn't have. So, it might be a good decision to get it once before spending too much on this profession.

Try www.leftseat.com for an excellent aviation medical information website.

What is your uncorrected vision? As long as your vision is correctable to 20/20 you should get your First. An FAA medical examination is cursory compared to what your regular doctor will give you. No blood is drawn, or anything like that. After age 40 you must have an EKG. You are younger than 40. As long as you are in reasonable health you should get your First.
