Anyone else notice that AirTran's stock has gone up more than 300% in the last 8 months. Neither of the "darlings" of this board (SWA nor Jetblue) can boast that type of financial success. They are both outstanding companies but one of these days AirTran will get the respect it deserves. I sure wish I had the money back then to buy a bunch of AAI stock.

I've most definitely noticed. When I started class last August, the stock was selling for just under $4 a share. I bought some, not because I thought it was any great investment, but just because.

Turned out to be a pretty good move. :)

Do you understand the magnitude of difference between Air Tran stock going up 300% and the idea of SWA stock going up 300%?

Discussions have been held on this board concerning % of growth at an airline. Same principle. An airline with 1 airplane can have 100% growth with the addition of 1 airplane. SWA would have to up their total fleet to over 750 to achieve the same % gains.

There really is no way to compare Air Tran or Jet Blue to SWA in respect to %.

All great companies, all great buys, but no comparison.
