I interned at AA, while i was there we were told an average year retired about 150 or so pilots. Between 2004-2007 they were projecting to lose like 450 pilots a year. That would help create some movement in the industry, unless AA just gets smaller over time.

I'm sure someone else could shed some light on this.

Highflying,

Not counting the Ferbs (early outs around 307)

date AA TWA Total
2002 98 74 172
2003 147 89 236
2004 207 60 267
2005 216 70 286
2006 295 62 357
2007 305 70 375
2008 440 59 499
2009 438 55 493
2010 375 44 419

2010-2020 we retire anywhere from 350 to 751 a year. Large retirments like the 700+ take place during 2015 and up.

Hope that helps

AAFlyer,

Your numbers for 2003 don't jive with the ones on AApilots.com. AApilots only shows 60 total retirements for '03. I like your number a lot more, 60 won't even make a dent! In fact, your numbers must be more current because TWA has more than 18 retirements next year.

Here's the numbers from AApilots, with the exception of 2003, our numbers are only a couple off of each other. Bottom line is that retirements at AA won't affect recalls / hiring for a few years because of all the fleet / capacity reductions.

AA TWA Total
2003 42 18 60
2004 167 40 207
2005 205 62 267
2006 291 57 348
2007 304 69 373
2008 426 55 481
2009 431 54 485
2010 370 44 414
2011 307 44 351
2012 298 39 337
2013 365 47 412
2014 451 46 497
2015 526 60 586
2016 595 49 644
2017 630 63 693
2018 661 75 736
2019 653 86 739
2020 670 82 752
2021 637 90 727
2022 519 88 607

Interesting, I wonder if those numbers were have supposed to included the Ferbs. Will check into it. As for impacting layoffs, I never thought they would. Only the economy will fix that.

Thanks for putting your stats down. Oddly enough I received mine from ask and answer on aapilots.com.

Take Care,

AAflyer
