ALPA's American Eagle Pilot Leaders Announce Tentative Agreement in Negotiations
Wednesday September 22, 2:00 pm ET

DALLAS, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The elected union leaders of the American Eagle pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), met on Sept. 21-22 to discuss a comprehensive management proposal to modify their current labor agreement. After extensive discussion and scrutiny, the Eagle pilots' Master Executive Council (MEC) voted to accept the proposal as a Tentative Agreement.

http://us.ard.yahoo.com/SIG=125h0cr...http://www.gftforex.com/land/index.asp?aid=54The Tentative Agreement improves upon the Eagle pilots' current contract with a fixed wage increase in the first year, enhanced 401(k) provisions and overall quality-of-life improvements.

With a TA negotiated, both parties have already begun to meet to finalize contract language. Upon completion, the pilots' MEC will reconvene to review the document and determine whether or not to ratify the agreement.

"We are encouraged by the terms and conditions of this TA," said Capt. Herb Mark, Eagle ALPA MEC chairman. "The outline of this proposal provides positive changes for our members, while addressing management concerns that focus on the company's need to remain competitive. We look forward to reviewing formalized language and concluding this negotiation to our mutual satisfaction."

The current contract talks are part of several amendment rounds built into the Eagle pilots' 16-year agreement to ensure that its terms and conditions are adjusted every four years to keep pace with pilot contracts at peer carriers and to reflect the growth and success of American Eagle Airlines. The Eagle pilots and their management have been engaged in negotiations for the last five months.

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world's largest pilot union, representing 64,000 pilots at 43 airlines in the United States and Canada, including more than 2,700 American Eagle pilots based in Dallas, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, New York, Miami, and San Juan. Any details?

Don't quote me or anything, but I believe the "fixed wage increase in the first year" means that ALL pilots will receive some sort of wage increase the first year of the ammended contract (for example, a 5% increase for all pilots in the first year instead of the Industry Average Index increase, which I was told would have been around 2.2% for 2005). I'm assuming that after the first year, we will get the usual IAI (or similar) pay increase each year. I'm kind of curious though to see what the TA actually entails. I guess we Eagle pilots will know soon enough.

TA general info

First off, bullet point listing of TA'd contract adjustments will be released by the union on Friday, so I'm not going to spend a long time duplicating their effort:

Economic improvements are many, including:
-9% first year FO pay bump (to 22.86/hr or so)
-4% for everyone else
-Industry average increase + 1% for 2006, IAI for 07 and 08
-100% line guarantee (up from 96%)
-Overtime/Junior Man pay goes from 116/136% to 120/150%
-Deadhead pay up from 50% to 75%
-401k increases (pretty significant ups at that)

Some other side stuff:
-Roll the Letters of Agreement into main body of contract for clarity
-And best of all, we keep reserve profferring (with some additional limitations)

Negatives:
-Slight adjustments to cancellation/reassignment policies for lineholders
-Some other minor work rule type changes, cant remember enough of the details to make it worth it

Nothing mind blowing, though the nearly $2/hr raise for us first year FO's is nothing to sneeze at. I'm sure some will piss and moan that its not the kind of contract increase we should have gotten or not comparable to the bargain xjet is striking.... but my take on it is that the union did well in negotiating, especially with the very limited leverage that we have during these adjustments.

Oh: and my source: a presentation to us in training by the EGL ALPA Exec Administrator

IAI + 1%. Didn't you already have IA +7%? Can you elaborate. Glad you guys kept reserve proffering. Good luck to all of you. Sounds like things are starting to improve over there. 'Bout time.

What is "reserve proffering"?

IAI is "industry average" + 1 % so if the average of ASA/COM/AWC/ECt.. get a 5% then we would get 6%

Reserve proffering, is when a pilot is on reserve they can pick any open trip in the open time bank to fly. for the next day or four days. It goes in senority order. this way you are not at the companys mercy. ( its kind of nice getting a trip that ends on your last day at 9 in the morning.)
