Just made its first landing. Looks like the guy should've left the autopilot on until 50' AGL. It seemed to me there were some pretty big control movements going on. Anybody have an idea what the wind was in London at time of arrival?

I think it made a few landings before when it went on a tour of Asia a few months ago. This was its first time in London, though.

I noticed that too, there was quite a bit of rudder movement right before touchdown and the landing looked pretty hard.

Looks like a good amount xwind?

I would be that they were very light and had enough fuel onboard to divert the to nearest place that could "handle" the plane. If something did go wrong on landing at heathrow, I'd imagine they didn't want to have a massive post crash fire.

What are you talking about?

Remember that all aircraft are making small adjustments when lining up for center line, they are just not as noticeable in smaller aircraft. But in the a380 these movements are magnified because of the sheer size of the aircraft. The longer the wingspan, the more the wingtips will appear to fluctuate as adjustments are made.
