A320 Winglets?

Whatever happened to the project started in 2006 to research blended winglets on the A320? I remember JetBlue was involved in the matter and even donated an aircraft. I know the A320 wing was very efficient and that it would probably produce a 4% fuel savings versus the B737 of 5-6% (mostly based on original wing design).

Just curious, did it ever go beyond testing or will it in time show up on A320's?

There were two designs floating around weren't there?

There was a big plank, MD11-esque design earlier, then a massive, long, smoothly blended design later. Both have been shelved. The reason I heard was that there simply wasn't enough structural margin in the existing wing to take the loads. Essentially the modification wxould have been unfeasible due to the beef-ups necessary.
