Didn't seem that long ago that the high and mighty guardians of the "bar" were PFT, is it right for them to jam someone else for raising or lowering ANYTHING after the main reason they were hired was they had mommy or daddy or the trust fund buy'em a job? Anyone? Anyone? Didn't Comair charge 2 million for their school, then 10,000 to be a CFI at the same school? Then 12,000 grand to be an EMB120 FRO then another 10K to upgrade? Correct the prices if I am wrong......

Are you drunk? Whats an EMB120 FRO? A special haircut to fly the Brasilia? And who the hell pays 2 million for a 20 grand job?? That would be a great racket. The academy (owned by Delta Connection, no longer Comair) pays their CFI's, and always has- they probably only make 10K a year. In case you've lived in a hole, a business cannot have someone do company work (for profit) without compensation - that's called slavery.

I do, however, think you are right that the intitial training used to be paid for by the applicant. I don't know for that sure though. How different is that from buying a 737 type rating to get a job with SWA?

Not any different than, say, paying for a medical degree to become a doctor. SWA doesn't sell type ratings and thereby doesn't profit by requiring applications to get one. PFT, on the other hand, is designed to make the company money. Big difference.

Not drunk yet....

but the Fat Tire Ale is taking its toll. One thing we all can agree on is good beer, especially done Belgian style www.NewBelgium.com. BTW The Belgians drink more beer per capita than the Germans...this stuff is STRONG........I think I am starting to see things.......

Being of Belgian stock and coming from a long line of professional beer drinkers, I can personally attest that Belgian beers are the best in the world. If you ever get the chance, try the "Duvel" (a Flemish word for devil). It's pricey and hard to find because some states won't sell it (too much alcohol), but it's worth it. Any of the six trapist beers are wonderful as well. And my wife loves the fruit beers although I think they're a little too sweet.

Man, this thread is making me thirsty and I've got to fly this afternoon...
