Does anyone have detailed information on Q400 Captain slots at A-Net(ANA). QOL, realistic salary/mo., living in Japan, would be greatly appreciated.

I think it's pretty funny that they want non-rated pilots to have 500 hrs in a two man turboprop, when the Q400 shares a lot more in common with a CRJ than a Be1900.

A beech 1900 isn't technically a 2 man turbprop. Just becuase most operators do it that way doesn't matter... You can still hold a type rating and operate the sucker solo. Ergo, BE1900 time wouldn't meet the qualifications for the job.

Take a chance and apply

Lived in Japan for three years and loved it!! Of course I was military so use of military facilities made QOL living conditions real nice. It is very expensive to live, smaller living space and the culture is one you'll find different. Yet, it sure would be a great time and adventure. Flying within the country is great and throughout the Far East/Pacific Rim too. Idea place to stage from and tour the Far East.

Apply and interview if given the chance. If ya don't like then turn it down and drive on. I'd jump on it in a heartbeat if it weren't for my current position. Certainly not giving it up any time soon!!! :)

Good luck to all who try. If you do try then let the rest know here.

My sim partner at 9E went for that contract...

Spent 5 months in Japan going through their very "unique" style of training. When he was finally ready to roll, they fired all of the expat pilots due to some conflict with the Japanese pilot union. I don't get the feeling this is the most stable operation.

Hum? Sorry but the thread is about the A-Net Q-400 operation that is part of the ANA group. No such thing has happened here

btw: I also came from 9E

Thanks for the replies. I read the skinny from the website with the numbers, I was looking for first hand experience. Do you stand to make more with all the incentives from the contract over there? How is the adjustment to the Japanese way of life (Is it just like, The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift)? How is Osaka?

What kind of resume are they looking for?
General background:
5800 Tot
3800 Turbine PIC (3300 SF340/500 DHC-8/Q400)
Is that competetive? What is a realistic take home paycheck?

Thanks Again, with the industry the way it is stateside it almost seems better to take a shot over there.
