So after working about 50 days in a row I had planned to take today(Wednesday) off. However, a few days ago I received a call from a kid (we'll call him Jerry) who said he had taken a Discovery Flight with me a few months ago and wanted to start flight training. We picked a day earlier this week and it ended up being weathered out due to storms. I called him to tell him we couldn't fly with all the storms. He sounded very perplexed and actually kind of mad. Feeling kind of bad that we didn't get to do anything and with a little hesitation I rescheduled him for my day off, Wednesday at 4pm. I figured- hey it's only one lesson!

Wednesday comes and I drive out to the flight school around 3:45pm and wait. And wait some more. And at about 4:15pm he calls me to ask which airport the flight school is located. Now, mind you, I thought this to be a bit strange since he had taken a Discovery Flight with me a few months ago. Shouldn't he know which airport the flight school is at? Then again we do have several nearby airports with flight schools/clubs - maybe he just followed the wrong airport sign?

The conversation was something like this:

Jerry: "Are you at the International Airport?"

Me: "Uh no, we're at Jeffco Airport."

Jerry: "Where is Jeffco Airport?"

Me: "It's in Broomfield"

Jerry: "Where is Broomfield?"

Me: "Uhm, okay where are you coming from?"

Jerry: (He tells me some county name)

Me: "Oook, not sure where that is... Do you know where Boulder is?"

Jerry: "I've never heard of Boulder."

Me: "[long pause...] Jerry, what state are you in?"

Jerry: "Utah. You're in Utah, right?

Me: "Colorado!"

Long story short... He had been on vacation a few months ago and taken a Discovery Flight with me while he was visiting the area. He also took one of my business cards while he was here. I guess when he got back to Utah he did intro flights at some other places and grabbed more cards. Somehow he thought my card was a different instructor in Utah and contacted me. (Even though it has the flight school name and full address on it) hehe

That also explains why he was acting weird when we cancelled the first lesson due to storms. Apparently the weather was GREAT in Utah that day! lol

Anyway, i'm not mad in any way - it was just funny. Thought I'd share. Anyone had a similiar experience?

Hahaha, that's hilarious. I can only hope my next day off (Memorial Day) is as fun.

That is funny..lol..Sort of similar incident happened to me, but I am on the other side as the prospective student..Last year I had gone out to California for my nieces graduation and decided to go to the local field(KCIC) and do a disco flight..It was great experience..After the flight the CFI and I shot the breeze for like 45 minutes descussing all sorts of things, and I got his card..I had forgotten when I showed up the FBO had me sign in their 'registry book' and it included my cell phone number..Well, a couple weeks after the disco flight I got a call from the CFI wondering when I wanted to start my training(because I had stated I really wanted to soon), then it dawned on him as I was talking to him that I was in Georgia and he in Cali so I couldn't just 'drop by' to get the lessons started..lol..I have his contact info, and he said the next time I was out there that he could give me some 'ad hoc' training in :)
