Now, I may be reading too much into this one too. I tend to do that.
However, if noth a MEA and a MOCA are prescribed for a particular route or route segment, a person may operate an aircraft bleow the MEA down to, but not below, the MOCA, when within 22 nautical miles of the VOR concerned..."
Are MOCAs only to be used within 22nm of the VOR? If so, does that imply the terrain clearance is only within the 22nm?
I was under the impression the altitudes could be used along the entire airway, but only nav signal could be guaranteed within 22nm. In this case though, there must be a restriction as to navigation equipment that must be on board (RNAV/GPS), or not?
Wow, this brings up another question: How do you navigate MEA gaps? Dead reckoning like the ol days?!?!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!
