A portion of 91.175 states:

b) Authorized DH or MDA. For the purpose of this section, when the approach procedure being used provides for and requires the use of a DH or MDA, the authorized DH or MDA is the highest of the following:

(1) The DH or MDA prescribed by the approach procedure.
(2) The DH or MDA prescribed for the pilot in command.
(3) The DH or MDA for which the aircraft is equipped.

I understand 1 and 3 but not 2. Could somebody give me an example of where 2 might be used?

I could be wrong since I don't have an FAR with me but don't you mean CAT II and CAT III is where teh change is being made?

High mins captain. Until a new captain has 100 hours PIC (IOE doesn't count, unlike a FO). He/she must add 100' and 1/2 mile to the approach minimums.
