Anyone know anything about this? I am deployed with the Navy so our supplies go through Sig. I heard that a 747 from Evergreen? (not sure if that is the company) ran long on the runway and the nose tires are off the end. I heard that it has been there for 5 days and now the mains are starting to sink. It has the long RW closed and the logistic planes are bingoing to other airports and the parts are coming in by c-9 to Sig on the short RW. Anyone know anything? Sounds like a mess.

Yep

Went through Sigonella on Sunday. There was an Evergreen 747 off the end of 28L. Both runways there are 8000 feet long but the outboard (28L,10R) is 148 feet wide while the inboard is something more like 95 feet wide. The outboard has big overruns also. I only got a look at it as we came in on approach but it appeared that the mains were still on the overrun pavement but the nose gear was 50 feet or so into the grass/dirt. Not sure if it is still there. I think it probably went off the end on Saturday because we heard a bunch of AMC types diverting to Aviano and other places because the runway was closed at Sig.
I asked one of the AF types that was working the ground issues there for AMC and she said it was fast at touchdown on a wet runway and blew out most of the mains including some fire. That is all second hand.
Sig usually uses the outboard for everything and the inboard is basically used as a parallel taxiway but when the outboard gets shut down, they use the inboard and it works just fine. Just be careful with the skinny runway & late/no flare illusion, or so I've heard.
