I did my type at K & S. If you're like me I like to get the books at least 3 weeks in advance and walk in the door having Limitations, Memory Items and Systems down cold. At K & S they threw the test at you the second you walked in the door. Best of luck on your type.
HPA sends everything you need to complete the course. The course is approved based on 80? hours home study. You are sent a set of Boeing manuals, limitations, study questions, panel outlays, preflight tapes (now cd), flight profiles and briefing guide.
A quiz is given first day to see if you reviewed the materials. Everyone passed in our class (~12).
If you review the material and are at least familiar with the a/c, then you should have no trouble in class.
HPA is an outstanding organization. I wouldn't worry, you don't have to know how to build the airplane.
The material you receive is all you need for the class. If you can't get enough, visit these sites.
