with regard to 61.58, what is the difference between taking a proficiency check under 61.58 (d) (1) or (d) (2)??? Thank you.

Looks like (1) is a prof. check for the sake of the prof. check only, and (2) is a type-checkride which automatically counts as a prof. check. I guess (1) could be given by a company check airman who's not necessarily a DE.

It seems like they are saying if you take the PC under 61.58 (d) (2), you need to conduct the PC in accordance with the PTS. (ie) The PTS tells you what maneuvers and procedures to complete as well as the minimum performance level that will be accepted for passing. 61.58 (d) (1) says you must fly the maneuvers and procedures required for a type ride. So... where do I find what is required for a type ride? 61.157???

61.58 PPE Check

If you operate under 135 or 121 the 61.58 is not a requirement. It is covered by your 6 month checks. If you are a 91 operator it is a yearly requirement for aircraft that require two pilots. If you fly two airplanes that require two pilots then you can alternate aircraft each year so within a 24 month period you have had a check in each airplane. The 61.58 check ride is conducted under the ATP/ Type rating PTS. A PPE is an FAA designation. The requirements for the PPE designation can be found on the FAA website under the 8700 handbook chapter 19.

Steep turns
Approach to Stalls
Holding
Precision approaches
Non-precision approaches
Circle to land procedures
Rejected TO/ Ldg
Missed approaches
CRM
Auto pilot procedures
Simulated emergencies V1 cut, Electrical, Hyd failures and others
Standard check ride stuff, W/B, performance charts

Hope this helps.
