Our unit got BRAC'd and we are converting from A-10's to the C-21/JCA. Through the rumor mill I have heard that due to a longer crew day and flight hours, you can log three AFTP's in a day. Is this true? Can anyone point me in the right direction.

Not true. Back in the mid 90's on the KC-10, all but 2 of my AFTP's where 10+ hours. 8 Hours is the minimum, there is no maximum. Now if you went over midnight, that would be a different story!

The only time I've gotten three in one duty day was a 16 hour mission we flew during the Katrina relief effort that went well after midnight. It was really two on one day and one on the next but was all one flight duty period.

We get 3 for 1 sitting alert but that's on orders. I've never tried the AFTP x 3 for alert but I doubt it would work.

The regs state no more than 2 AFTPs in a day. Going across two calendar days would allow you to get 3. It's been a while, but I think that I used to be able to get 1 ground AFTP and 1 air AFTP in one day, and then 1 more air AFTP in the next calendar day when flying night missions that would end at 0300L or so.

Thanks guys. The max of two aftp's seems to be the consensus and what the reg states. I guess it was just a rumor.

AFTP Rules

I will add that while in conversion we were allowed to use up to eight of our quarterly TPs as GTPs rather than the usual four. Once the unit comes out of conversion status that provision goes away - at least it did for us. Your mileage may vary.

Pony,

Just wondering. Have you guys been officially notified about getting the JCA, or is that just rumor?

It just seems that every BRAC'd unit says they are getting the JCA. I know there was a USAF/AMC "roadmap" for the JCA but I wasn't sure it was official.

pkober, like everything in this post-brac world, nothing is guaranteed. We are slated to get c-21's and should see them on our ramp by the end of the year. We are slated on paper to get the JCA. Now, when it is supposed to happen is a big unknown. We could get brac'ed again before they even get here. I will be long retired by then.
