The MCO base will gradually be downsized during the transition and eventually cease altogether; for the 717 that is.

The two official 717 bases will be ATL and TPA. Confirmed via SWA memo today.

But, the TPA base will not be opening for a year or two when the 717's begin their transition into SWA livery.

Why? Both SAT-MEX and SAT-SJD are shorter than SAT-ATL which we currently fly with the 717. Don't some regionals fly RJ's to Mexico from the US?

J41,
Not speaking for what Herc Driver is trying to get across but Some of the SW guys just assume all new city pairs would be 73 (Southwest colors) which is not going to be the case! (some of us could care less, some will be up in arms, in the end, IT WILL NOT MATTER! Fill'em up, I need a big profit sharing check for a while!!!)

Copy the "it will not matter". We're all on the same team now and we're going to share all of the $$ so let's make sure there is A LOT of it.

Good point! I was thinking about the short legs and fewer seats with the 717. Not upset at all. Just curious.

It is only a guess, but I think the 717 will be put on the routes and times of the day that require its lift.

Long haul or short haul, it doesn't matter. For example, the 717 flies MSP to MCO all the time. NY to Florida too. Some times of the day, the 717 flys it, other times the 737 flys it. Really just depends on the load that Market Planning is aiming for at a particular time of day.

.

It's going to be planned like the 500. Some long but mostly short productive trips. 4-6 leg days. Remember AT system is connecting to a much larger route system, and you will see the 717 fly more than it already is. I am excited about what both systems will bring.
