Continued flight after encountering moderate or greater icing conditions is prohibited. One or more of the following defines moderate icing conditions for this airplane:
Airspeed in level flight at constant power decreases by 20 KIAS
Engine torque required to maintain airspeed increases by 400 ft. lbs.
120 KIAS cannot be maintained in level flight
Ice accretion of 1/4 inch observed on the wing strut
 
The reason for this new AD is the fact that too many freightdawg idiots out there went into the ice in a Carvan, put on the autopilot, whipped out the Maxim, and just went along fat dumb and happy. It's these freightdawg idiots that got themselves killed and caused the typical knee-jerk reaction by the FAA to lay the legal smack down.

While normally I would say CFIIer is a toolbox..... ;)

...I agree here...As long as your not an idiot the airplane is fine. Like prince said, don't turn on the AP and whip out the maxim and forget about it. I believe (Its been a while) that the book said 105 for min airspeed in icing, just about everyone I know used 120-130.

Unfortunately the FAA has to make the rules for the lowest common denominator.

I must have missed the point of the post. I flew the 208 out of new jersey for several months, including the winter of 2005. Does it suck in the ice...yep. It's got a pretty fat wing, and goes really slow. That's gonna cause some icing issues. I flew many times in some pretty bad icing, and was never really concerned about my safety. As long as you have an 'out', it's not a big deal.

I know an Airnet pilot got fired this past Jan/Dec because of an Icing incident inflight in one of there Cessna 208... He lost a bunch of altitude in cruise because of contiued flight in ICE.
