But it's still probably cheaper than a 737 type rating...

I don't think that is really a fair statement. They have to pay for the hotel where they are holding it, accommodations for the people they are bringing in, and printed materials. I dare say they are not making a dime on this. Unlike other people in this industry that charge a few hundred dollars for each person to attend a "get to know you" session, I applaud them for making it affordable for everyone.

I think $50 is well worth it to get in front of hiring managers.

I think canyonblue's comments were tongue-in-cheek.

If not, I'm sure someone will correct me.

Thank You English. I didn't think it was that far over other peoples heads.

Actually, CB, I did get the sarcasm. I just thought I'd make the obvious quip before someone else did.:)

No more than paying $50 or $75 a pop for submitting pilot applications just so you have a chance to shine. Now that would appear to be more objectionable since it is illegal in many states but not so in others. Where's the consistency there? When was a pilot paid a "bonus" when his workload was suddenly increased. Where is all this money going to? Last time I checked there were approx 7000 applications on file with airline XYX. At $50 a pop, that's a nice Christmas party for the gals in HR!! :D

I think $50 for a job fair like this is reasonable. Take a look at what Uncle Kit charges for his roadshows. Oh yeah, haven't you heard? There's a pilot shortage.......just being a little sarcastic, folks lol.

B757 -

That must be the new executive BONUS plan...if I did the math right, that would equate to $350,000. If I did it wrong, do not be mad at me. I had MAJOR computer problems today!!

Seems like that $50 a shot would pay for the whole HR department, including a Director or two. That would make an HR department NOT an expense-driven department..but rather a profit center.

If I remember correctly, the $50 fee was first started to discourage non qualified persons from submitting resumes. Many companies are required to keep and file all resumes that they receive.

Frankly one of the things I hate is having to go through a pile of resumes to find the 10% or less that actually meet the requirements we stated. The fact is at $50 they still send them.

I am completely convinced that going to a Job Fair like this one is the quickest way to get hired. You probably won't get hired on the spot, but it's a good chance to make sure your resume looks good and if they have any questions you can fix them.

If you can make it. Go!!!

The bottom line is that you get to shake hands and meet someone who will enhance your career. If you are going to see a particular airline, do some research on them. Know who you are talking to, know who they are looking for, and make a presentation for them....

Having attended a bunch of these, I cannot tell you how many stood in line to see some one, finally got to the head of the line, and had no idea where these guys flew, how they were doing, who they served, etc etc.

Lori knows what she is doing so it is up to you.
