Okay. Here goes. Try not to laugh......

I have interviewed with Southwest twice and been turned down. The first time back in 2000. Most recently last year. So it's that time again....eligible to reapply.

My question is: does it become a looonger shot of being hired the more times you get turned down? Or, hopefully, is it viewed as "wow, this guy must really want to work here."

Please tell me what I want to hear OR break it to me gently.

Thanks

apply again! I flew with a captai that got hired on the 4th try.

I flew with a guy that made it on his 3rd try. It does suck to be turned down! Been there and done that more than once. If its what you truely desire dont give up!

Look forward, not back. No matter how hard it is to move on. I also know 2 dudes who were hired the 3rd time.

Go get another interview prep, just in case.

I'm workin' on my fourth. Eligible in July.

But, I'm an a$$hole! ;)

Ditto, eligible in Feb 07. It must be the a$$whole thing;) that's getting us.

Or maybe we should erase the Junkstream time from our FI profile.:D

If they keep inviting you back for interviews, they must be interested. Try, try again.

Thanks for all the encouragement guys.
Been pursuing this a long time. Southwest first caught my attention back in '99 flying in and out of BWI for a commuter. The door in the face is tough on the ole' ego though....
Just updated my online app. Feels good to be back in the hunt so to speak.
Good luck to all.

One of my very favorite clients--absolute class act.

UPS--said no thanks....
JB--missed a great chance to grab this pilot
SWA--ditto

Then--last month--Alaska (original first choice) hired 'em! So--a long, crappy race but with a happy ending.

I've seen enough similar stories in the last 4 years to feel that although your own work and effort are critical, it is my firm belief that at times divine intervention is at work as we try to chart the course of our lives. Sometimes, these setbacks are extremely frustrating and painful. At the same time, I've seen more than a few "two time losers" end up somewhere that was actually a much better fit for their lives than their original plan. If SWA is your goal--then don't quit applying! At the same time, keep your options open and your eyes alert for other opportunities--who knows where you might end up!

As always, Albie nails it right on!

For a thread about losers and assholes, this one's quite inspirational. Makes me feel right at home.

-asshole and multiple time loser (in love).

I wouldn't look at it as them slaming the door in your face. They asked you back to another interview, they must like what they see. If I were you, I'd keep plugging.

if swa has turned you down 3 times and u think u did ok in the interview, you have enemies in the ranks, or bones in the closet. rec letters go both ways good and bad. id find out who the skeletons are and address it if you can

Good luck CRJDude.....I have heard that they do consider it admirable when someone interviews multiple times.

i dont know the answer to this, but if this is making you reconsider if you should apply again or not, think about how long the shot will be if you dont re-apply.

having the door in your face twice is not the best way to look at it. think about it from the point that they've invited you back 3 times. as for them inviting you back three times, maybe they really like the way you interview. ;)

How good are your interviewing skills?

I did several telephone interviews prior to my interview. Air Inc offers this service. I'm sure Kit Darby could use your money now-a-days.

I also went to an interview specialist who video taped me while doing a pretend interview. We reviewed the video together and I learned a lot about how I react to certain questions. I had a couple of things I was less-than-proud-of in my records and my tone and body language changed big time when they were brought up.

There are some folks who specialize in SWA interviews. They know all the questions and how to answer them. There used to be a guy named Rob Beeks, but I don't know if he is around anymore. If not him, I'm sure someone is doing it. SWA is such a hot hiring market, someone must be specializing in their interview prep.

SWA is not looking for "canned" answers, but you can still have a basic framework within which to answer questions.

How many letters of recommendation do you have from SWA employees? I had about 10. Captain letters are preferred.

Interview prep can get expensive, but not getting hired costs more.

If you had something bad in your application package, they wouldn't interview you at all. Maybe you need to practice interviewing.

I have heard that how many times you have applied doesn't matter when you show up, it's a clean slate. Now I can't say it's a fact, but that is what I have heard and seen on this board for a long time.
Things to think about from someone who has been turned down by SWA twice, Jeblue twice, and 2 other smaller carriers who I really didn't want to go to anyway. Before getting hired by another airline that while not my first or second choice, is working out rather well. In fact so good, I am not reapplying anywhere at this time, even though I do have the 737 type. Point is, you never quite know where you might end up, but try to enjoy the journey. I never would have expected to end up where I am, but for now it seems a good fit and am enjoying it.
I would recommend getting an interview prep, anyone but Kit Darby. I did my first interviewprep with them for my first SWA interview, and they weren't even in the ballpark. They had SWA clumped in with all the legacy's as far as how act in the interview, way offbase in my opinion.
Best of luck, and never give up, you never know how close you might be to your dream unless you keep trying.

"who knows where you might end up!"

Thanks Albie. Sometimes you need a positive attitude to help you see beyond the closed doors.

Speaking of "Albie"...you will not find a more professional, sincere, down to earth, help you tell YOUR stories, interview consultant anywhere! The skills he teaches you will help with ANY interview you are lucky enough to get.

No $$$ was payed for this post. I'm just a satisfied and hired client.

The Blue Angels selected a pilot on the 4th try.

IMHO you are probably what they want but for some reason you havn't yet made it into the "keep" pile for that particular wave of interviews.

You'll never know exactly who your competition was - give yourself the benefit of the doubt.

Best of luck!

Or work for another 737 operator and get acquired by SWA.

ATA guys tried that, doesn't work.

Don't EVER stop going back if that's where you want to be. It sucks getting the shaft. You've had a long year to get past it. If you had stink on you that bad, you wouldn't be invited back. It's like that girl in high school, things getting too heavy too fast, she says no. No problem, back off, be a gentleman, thank her for a lovely time, ask her out again next week. Before you know it, you're married.

Have you tried the new CAL Cologne? It's actually pretty good.

crjdude- you could also try something else and apply at a different airline. Apply at CAL.

Hit FDX and UPS too.
