Can anyone tell me exactly how to get a corporate job these days? my current experience is:
1650 TT / 800 multi-engine

I'm currently flight instructing and crazy about flying a turboprop or small jet. It seems like all positions require previous 135 and jet experience. How did you all started??? any advise is greatly appreciated.

Thanks and blue skies!

FAR 135 & Jet experience is what got me into Corporate...

I would suggest looking for a good Charter outfit and work your way up from there...

Same as Falcon Capt for me, 135 charter.
Find a good charter operator in your area and get in good with them. Do what you can to hang around the hangar and office helping out with the little things...Jepp charts, cleaning planes, etc.. ask if you can read thiee ops manual in the office and ask them questions. Show them that you want the job with them. When I was chief Pilot for a 135 operator, it was the guy that was around when he could and showed initiative who I recommended we hire.

good luck,

What about sim instructors

Corporate Dudes,

What about the sim instructors that give you guys annual instruction? I see job ads for sim instuctors and wonder if that would be a good way to:
a. learn a corporate jet
b. Make connections and eventually go "big time" corporate.

Thanks

Yes it can be a good "In" into the Corporate World... But time in type helps also...

Good Luck!

Lockheed Martin is hiring sim IP's out the a$$ right now. They are looking for military pilots though.

I think that's an excellent idea. We almost hired a sim instructor a while back; unfortunately he wasn't able to get his medical back.

I'm not sure quite how the sim companies hire, but I think that unless you have significant time in type, you start with the smallest airframe and work your way up. Otherwise I'm sure every sim instructor would be instructing in a GV.

i flew 402s to the grand canyon for a long time, met the right people and they came and asked me to work for them flying a lr 24-but i was also wrenching on airplanes for 20 years-which helped alot

I can answer that in 3 words. Network, network, network. Oh, and did I mention network?

I bypassed 135 and check running and started in a corporate cabin piston twin. From there I went to management company flying jets. It really is who you know. NETWORK!

Friends don't let friends drive fuel trucks.:D

135 turboprop/jet charter....some on demand, air ambulance..etc....
and got out ASAP!!!

Dont miss it a bit!!

Once you get one type rating and a little jet PIC time, the rest come easy.

Also rememeber...99% of the good jobs come from friends on the inside!

Good luck

Corporte job

Polite persistence and networking.

Do your homework first. Find out about the various corp operators out there; bases, equipment, CP's, DO's, product or service, hiring specifics, etc...

Target specific venues and design a 5 year plan to get a job with them. (Don't worry, I think you have plenty of time). Make sure to include networking into your plan.

I'm convinced that a good reputation in whatever quality time-building job you take will get you in somewhere. 135, Sim instructor, whatever...

Personally; Lineman, A/C mechanic, Instructor, very little 135, Corporate, ???

Don't get dicouraged either. I started at a very bad time too and eventually made it. Persits and it will be worth it.

Good luck,

One word of advice, don't be picky on location! If there's a 135 jet job in Podunk, take it! The time to be picky with location, pay, equipment, etc. comes later.

As G200 said it's all about getting that first type and some jet PIC. Once you get that it, the game gets a little easier, at least you have options.

corp

amt,

I echo 501261's statement about location. I've lived in 5 different states since I started in this business. My friends who didn't want to move had to wait much longer for their opportunities to come along. Personally, I like the moving and travel... thats why I got into flying anyway. Florida is not a awful region to be in for corporate but there are much better areas to consider.

I think you are looking for a corporate operator, right? Not a commercial operator? There are numerous small pro-golfer type flight departments operating in that area. Might be a first step...

Corporate job location

Thanks guys. I really did not mean to be picky about the location, i was just asking if anyone of you knew anybody in Florida. The idea of Golfers really sounds good. Altough my family's in Florida, i have always been ready to move to wherever is necessary.
Thanks again for all the positive feedback and encouragement.

Florida

That's funny...I'm thinking about moving back to Florida, for the increased employment opportunities.

yes location is vital

Florida tends to lean toward the rat$hit charter learjet operators....not all, but a whole lot....with guys willing to work for next to nothing...and the white trash in Florida....Oh I wont go there....

Your best areas (unfortunatly) are the TEB/HPN area and I suppose BUR/VNY area.....

I am in the Northeast, are there is always many jobs....but...the area is expensive and it is not going to break 25o F today.....
lovely.
