I couldn't believe my ears when I called Simuflite and Flight Safety only to find out that their 135 type rating courses in a Citation III were $15,400 and 20,400, respectively.
How does that all work out considering a B737 type is anywhere from $5500-7000?
I couldn't imagine having to get one on your own- at least someone in the biz is making money!

Unfortunately, he is looking for a 3 type. PanAm/Simcom doesn't do them. It really comes down to economy of scale. The real reason for the 'cheap' 737 types is that the providers are leasing available time from the airlines who have paid for the sim and its operation. Because of the way sims are set up it essentally costs the same if they are used or not. So the additional operation of the sims doesn't cost the airlines that much additional funds and they make money from this.

As for FSI and Simuflite, they are in the business of providing training and must make a profit to stay in business. They tend to price their courses accordingly. Their feeling is, after all a CE650 is a multi million dollar aircraft, if the owner can't afford a few measly thousands to send his people to school then he shouldn't be in that type aircraft.
