I'm looking for a Part 141 school in the Los Angeles area...other than American Flyers. I have called several places at SMO and VNY and neither seem to have a 141 school.
Thanks!

a) Stay away from Air Desert Pacific. Also known as "Another Downed Piper." Very sketchy maintenance record over the years.

b) Take a look at Justice Aviation at SMO. Not 141, but a good "mom and pop" operation with some nice airplanes.

c)Why do you want 141?

I never knew ADP was that bad, maybe I should go there? I saw a plane on there flight line yesterday that has been on fire. The pilot loaded it up and it backfired and cought on fire. I do think im going to steer clear.

I though it stood for "another dead pilot".

I've heard that one too. I was trying to be politically correct. I know there are more but I just can't jog my brain to remember them at the moment.

Back in 1997, I received a scholarship from Sporty's Pilot Shop for my flight training. I wanted to do my IFR rating in a twin, so as to build some multi-time. Hal Shevers, the owner of Sporty's, flat out refused (and I thank him now for doing this) to let me go to ADP. He told me to go anywhere but there and I ultimately stayed at my "mom and pop" flying club in NC. Turned out to be a great choice. I owe Hal a lot and I definitely owe him for keeping me away from ADP. I ended up being a CFI down the road at SMO and every time I'd see an ADP plane, the hairs on the back of my neck would stand up.

A) Thanks.
B) I think I spoke with them once, they seemed nice and helpful...I'll check them out when I get into town.
C) Because I've already done 130 hrs in 141 and I want to continue with it.

Also, have you ever heard of 'Hollywood Aviators'?? I heard they were in the process of becoming a 141 school... Not sure on that and not sure when either.

Thanks for your help.

Never heard of them - I don't think they are at SMO. I am most familiar with SMO. Don't know much about BUR, WHP, or VNY. Down at SNA is Orange County Flight Center. Very well known place with good management. I think they might be 141.

I still don't know what the big draw to 141 is. You might want to consider www.allatps.com. I am a huge proponent of their program if you are motivated and willing to work hard. Tons of multi time. My airline loves hiring those guys.

For Justice Aviation, www.justiceaviation.com and for OCFC, try http://www.ocflightcenter.com.

What is the rest of your situation and what are your goals? Are you 100% tired to SoCal? How old are you? Do you have a degree? Let us all know and we can be more forthcoming with possible advice.

AFI at FUL and Rainbow Air at LGB are both 141 schools.

You'll spend a lot going to AFI, or 141 for that matter. If you are a reasonably sharp cookie you'll get through quicker and cheaper part 61.

I'm 22, working on my college degree, tied to So Cal for at least 6 months starting next weekend... Eventually looking toward the airlines but I know it's a long hard road... Just finished my instrument training and I got screwed over by my instructor (he admitted it afterwards) and am trying to prevent that from happening again. Not necessarily going to get my commercial in the next month but I'd like to start flying (renting) from somewhere and it would be nice to have both of those from the same place.

Thanks for any/all help/advice!

141 word of caution

Many 141 schools only allow you to credit a certain percentage of 141 time towards their program. I have seen anywhere from 30-70%. It may in fact require less time for you to finish under 61... something to consider.

I'll train ya... take a look at Lenair aviation at SNA. We are definately 141

Try the Long Beach Flying Club and Flight Academy down in LGB. Good prices, lots of airplanes and very friendly.

Sunrise Aviation, Part 141, excellent training, I got almost all my ratings there, some aerobatics, great operation, quality instruction, and both the chief pilots are the best in the business.
I second this wholeheartedly!

Hollywood Aviators in VNY

Hollywood Aviators is a New flight school in Van Nuys. They are working on getting 141 certified and I think it will happen in the near future. Nice airplanes, and professional Simulators as well.

Just a thought! :)

Professional simulators?

As opposed to what?
