I currently fly a caravan for 135 freight company. I'm also a part time instructor. The van job is only temporary (6 mos), I'll be flying with them untill mid september. Here is the question. I've been pursuing a job at a local FBO for sometime, has anyone had any experience working for two 135 operators? If the position becomes available it would be part time. If I were to get the job I would be affraid off pissing off the management when my schedules would conflict each other. However, it would be a great way to get my foot in the door. My van job is a scheduled run at night, I fly 4 times per week and my duty time usually never exceeds 5 hours. My schedule for the entire month is given to me about a week and a half ahead of time. From a business point of view I wouldn't even think of hiring myself, the whole duty time issue wouldn't be worth the hassle. Yet in the last year i've had a really good dialogue with the manager and know many of the current pilots. I'm torn, I don't want to let an oppurtunity pass by but I also don't want to burn any bridges. If any of you have had similar experiences your thoughts and insight would be greatly appreciated.

duty time?

you can not exceed 14 hrs duty in a 24 hour period and you must have 10 hr uninterupted duty free rest during the 24 hr, both you and both of your employers would be in violation if you flew outside of these limits, so you could see how this might upset an employer.

Another important point:

If you do violate the duty time/flight time regs, BOTH employers will be violated by the FSDO (as much as $10,000.00 each.) I currently am on 2 certificates, and the paperwork has to be perfect. As with most 135 operators, I am responsible for my monthly flttime & Duty records. It can be a real pain.

I would make sure that both employers know what is up and agree to trust you to maintain your records so that you can tell them if you can't do a trip because of regs.
