135 ???

Question:

I apologize in advance if this question sounds silly, but I know nothing about starting up a 135 ops., although I would be very interested.

How do you get an aircraft ready for the FAA to inspect without being able to use it to generate revenue, as AviateYou said, "it could take up to 2 years."??

Buying an airplane or leasing it while waiting for this certificate would put anyone in the red very quickly!

Could you tell the seller that you are waiting for the certificate before you actually start dumping the $$ on lease payments???

I'm all ears!

You will find that there are many items that aircraft specific. Many of the Operations Specifications require aircraft type and some even require aircraft registration and/or serial number. Also you have to have a training program for that type aircraft.

Then the aircraft has to be inspected by the maintenance inspectors to ensure that the aircraft complies with ALL requirements. Just because the aircraft just got off a 135 certificate, doesn't mean it will pass the inspection in your FSDO.

While you don't need to have an aircraft in hand when you start the process, you will need to have one picked out fairly soon. And you will have to have that aircraft in hand before you too far down the road.
