So here's the question...Do you all think it would be better to take a job flying PIC navajo and SIC King Air(possibly PIC at times or at least after six months or so) or SIC in a citation and getting typed in six months? The jet pays 5-10K less to start. My thinking is that the jet time and type rating offset the lower pay at least for a little while. The atmosphere is also a lot more relaxed. Any input? Thanks.

I’d only really consider the Citation job if it were in a “true” two pilot bird (i.e. 500, 550, S550, 560). Trying to log SIC time in the “SP” Citations (i.e. 501, 551, 525, 525A) will probably cause more headaches than its worth. Then again the other option is trying to log SIC in a King Air…Good luck

I'd take the jet if it is a two pilot plane as mentioned above. It all depends what you think is more valuable, PIC time in the Navajo, which you already seem to have, and dual in a King Air with the possiblity of getting some PIC time or jet time with the possiblilty of getting a type rating.

Throttlebender, If you are going to be flying 135 in any Citation and the certificate holder requires two pilots you should be able to log sic time. Someone correct me if I am wrong under 91 ops if your ops manual specifies and insurance requires two pilots there shouldn't be a problem logging sic time. If you are going to be getting a type after six months go the jet route.

If you are Part 91, an Ops Manual is useless. It means just about nothing to the Feds. If flying a single pilot aircraft, and your insurance, company, and psychic all require it to be operated with two pilots....SIC cannot legally be logged. Even if it is a single pilot airplane, the PIC CAN have a limitation on his certificate that an SIC is required....in that case, the SIC is legally required, therefore the time can be logged. If it's a 135 operation and the Ops Manual says an SIC is required, then the time can be logged.

Thanks for the opinions everyone. The Citation job is 135 and 2 pilot required. It would consist of 2 weeks initial training and then return in 6 months for a type rating. Hoping that I get this one. The other job is looking like less and less by the the moment. It's not even a lateral move but infact...a step down. The money does concern me but I can suck it up for the experience and quality of time. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Oh, another thought. Another citation job might be in the works but this on is 91. If the PIC is ATP as well I could log all legs flown as PIC dual recieved correct?

How about this angle to the in-evitable question in an interview:

Say that the captain did not have a CE-500 single pilot authorization or the A/C was improperly equipt to maintain its single pilot ability.

I am ignorant in this area as I do not even know how to start the airplane. It is my understanding though that you have to have authorization and a properly equipt airplane. I always used to log SIC in an AC690 135 when the A/P was broken and it was required.

BTW take the jet, especially if you can get around it via your ops specs. Good luck and congrats!
