My question is will places like SWA, AirTran, JetBlue, CAL, and any others that will be hiring when I get the time, consider someone who has no 121 experience, but only 135 PIC experience? I currently work at a place that operates King Air 90s and BeechJets. I'm wondering if 1000 hrs of PIC turbine in BeechJets or King Air 90s will get you looked at by the majors or if you need 121 PIC experience. Thanks.

There was a guy in my new hire class here at America West who only had part 135 king air 90 time, when the time comes it will depend on who you know and the conditions of the industry at the time. I would say stay where you're at long enough to get your 1000 PIC first. Then, if you still can't get hired because of no part 121 time, you can try to get hired with a regional and fly right seat for a while and and not have to wait to upgrade.

Good luck!

Get your 1000 hours of jet PIC first. I have a friend that left the freight-dog world with about 700 hours of turbine PIC. He decided to jump to a 121 carrier. After 2 years in the right seat and no promise of upgrade in the near future, he jumped to a fractional. I would love to help him get on with FedEx, but he is stuck in the world of sub-1000 hour pilots; unless you are buddies with Fred Smith, you have to have that 1000 turbine PIC block checked. Next work on becoming an instructor or check airman, something that puts you above the other line pilots.

AirTran requires 500 PIC 121.
